• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX SCASM lights over Ground poly... HELP!

Hi guys!
I'm trying to make a scenery of Zilina airport (LZZI) in Slovakia. I read how to use airport for windows to make an invisible runway with lights and place it over the actual GP runway. I had no problems with creating it, but when I export the airport code to compile it with scasm, it launches for like half a second, but it doesn't compile any BGL.
If in airport for windows I select generate code and compile it leaves me with the normal .apt file, a .sca file and a BGL with nothing inside (0 bytes).
I wrote content of the .apt file that gets generated at the end of this post. I also noticed that it's not like the ones that some people post on this forum. I need it just to make the approach lights and the green/red end runway lights, it's not a problem for the edge ones and the PAPI.

Could someone help me out with this? I have no idea what to do or why half of the code is in French!

robystar, 3.5K messages with 10 years of experience and you say just "Sorry" ?:yikes: I'll be next with this question as I have had the same issue with "Light over ground poly" Tutorial.. Seems it doesnt work for everyone... I gave up with it as well and made an ASM tweak which looks like is working just over the Photo ground (Google maps) that made in SbuilderX. Anything else simply cancels that light effect.
I wonder what makes it to be cancelled ? Any clear tutorial could be handy...
Cheers.

I said sorry because I do not remember how to with Airport for Windows anymore and that is what he is making an .apt file with.
Today, you do not use Airport for Windows anymore (except maybe to make an invisible runway?) because there are newer programs of which some also allow you to compile the fs2002 way (scasm).
If it were not for the former, I would have advised to use ADE and its Ground Poly Editor plus Don Grovestine's AFLT for the approach lights and such. But I notice that in the end Epsilon90 already came to that conclusion also.

PS (so that you know it is me):

Oops, 10% are missing? Then those must have been my attempts to liven up this site with some (dubious?) joking.

:)

Good ! This answer actually makes sense. The only one question remains if anyone bother to answer.
Will AFLT (BGL/ASM) lights show on top of any surface layer made with Gmax for example or there are some kind of limitations ? I know they are ok on ADE and SbuilderX made surfaces but as soon as I use MCX GP Wizard, that is it, all lights that are in the MCX GP area just canceled.

you forgot that 50% out of your 80% you have got a solution and not because somebody answered, but because of studying the matter of FS. Near 10 years isn't a joke tho. ;)

Again, thanks for reply.

They work fine for me, I'm just having a problem at finding out how to make a complete MALSR light system.. Does anyone know how to do this?

Unfortunately I am not able to deny or confirm what both of you are trying you tell me (be it good or bad).
I only have, at present, my laptop available plus the tools that I put on on an external disk and that for one reason or another do not work at the moment.
Bear with me another month or so and I will be able to respond based on experimenting.
For the time being I only respond out of my head and trying to remember how I did it once back then:(.
The MALSR system should work in AFLT as well but I can not explain it in the absence of FSX.
Try asking Don!!!

PS (so that you know it still me): 10 years is nothing because there is still is a lot to learn and that is what makes FS9/FSX/(P3D?) so interesting. I will never know all the ins and outs until my dying day and neither will anybody else!:)
On the other hand, I enjoy flying as well once in a while (the final purpose of the program) and that is something that one tends to forget!

Hello Epsilon,

not sure why you work on Zilina specifically - but may I point you to a scenery by Roland Kanik that is available on Avsim? It does look quite nice.

Can you clarify ? ICAO or Scenery name or link or image.. Google finds aircraft and x-plane sceneries on kind a hg48yf84.com wesites indtead of Avsim. Avsim what ? net or su ?

Does anyone know how to fix the SCASM/AfW problem? I bet it's the only way to fix this problem now

Post your scasm file here and I'll look at it when I get from work later.
Alright, this zip file contains all the 5 files that generate when I click on generate code for SCASM... I have no idea why

The coordinates are wrong. You have put them in the wrong format, or entered them incorrectly. USE ade to find the runway's coordinates. You might have to change it from decimal to degrees.

I did it. I copied and paste the coordinates from the runway in ADE

It's got 2 boxes each for lat and long. You entered everything in the right box.

So it should be eg... "N|50|18.2892|" "W|2|.09305|".
