• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA SCASM model scale

I know that this question has come up before Arno, but I am wondering if you had implemented the SCASM SCALE parameter in ModelConverterX? I haven't tried recently, but about a month ago I brought into ModelConverterX a SCASM static model of an aircraft and when I placed it, it was the size of the whole airport! When placed by the SCASM bgl the aircraft was the proper size.

Hi,

I think it should work, but if you still have trouble please send me the file for testing and debugging.

Well the success of this endeavor is directly tied to which development release of ModelConverterX is used. The process I followed is as such.

1. Used SCDIS v2.3 to disassemble BGL to sca
2. Modified sca to remove all but the model I required
3. Imported sca with ModelConverterX development release r611 success, using development release r632 and I receive an empty object warning.
4. With ModelConverterX r611 I was able to successfully export to mdl
5. Placed model and it was the correct scale!

Bottom line: somewhere between r611 and r632 the ability to load a sca file got busted.

Hi,

Can you send me your file for debugging? With my test objects it still works with r636. Although the last days I indeed removed some bugs that had crept in lately.

You can also try to read the BGL file directly btw, for some files that will work. ModelConverterX will then show you all the objects in there.

Unfortunately neither r611 or r632 could read the bgl directly, r611 complained about it being a non supported bgl and r632 crashed. The bgl is from a freeware scenery I had downloaded from flightsim.com so I can't upload it here. You could download from flightsim.com yourself to test the bgl. The file is called comox042.zip and is by Vern Opperman. The particular bgl is named COMOX.bgl and is found in the scenery folder. The model I was extracting was using the 15 textures starting with F-101-2_.

Hi,

It should work with the next development release. I have just debugged the file and there were indeed a few small issues.

Good to hear Arno! On the other hand I am still going to hang on to the other 6 or 7 older development release versions of ModelConverterX I have just to be safe.

Hi,

I have everything in version control here as well, so if I really screw up in the development release I can always go back to the old stage. Sometimes the development release is indeed a bit unstable, because it is changed often. But with feedback from the users, like yours now, I can get these bugs out quickly again.
