• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello:
Look i'm sorry, but i'm a newbi at scenery design, i know its anoying to tell the things u have allready told to other newbies again to me, but since i'm a newbie well deal with it, lol. ok i am interested in scenery design, i want to add buildings to my home town, modify the airport, make some real grass aroung the airport fix the roads and well wateva to make things look betta, i have Fs2004, and can any one Fire me up on things please, just tell me wat i need to do most of those things, i have Maya, 3dsMax and also Gmax and many other and know how to modell texture n animate. i have noticed alot of softwares out there for scenery design but it gets confusing because there is just so much of them and just dunno which one to use. so just put me on the right track and tell me wats the most recomended SDK softwares, and also i'm in australia and well there arent many scenery files for there on the web.
Thank you all very much.

OK the first question is what version of FS you want to design for FS9 or FSX or both???

As the origional question mentions Fs2004, I will assume that as the target sim in my reply.

For 3D objects you can best use GMax. Just install the Fs2004 GMax SDK and with that gamepack you should be able to make any 3D object you want as a MDL file.

When it comes to placing your objects into the actual scenery, you will have to use XML code and BGLComp (check the BGLComp SDK). Depending on the scope of your project it might also be useful to use a tool to create the XML code for you. I use my own ObPlacer XML tool usually to do the object placement.

For modifying the airport I would advice that you use AFCAD. And if you want to add polygons to the landscape, you are best off using the mesh techniques. SBuilder is a great tool for that.

As the origional question mentions Fs2004, I will assume that as the target sim in my reply.

That will teach me to read the question :o
