• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Scenery no longer loading , objects listed as UNKNOWN

Ive been having trouble getting some textures to load on my latest object import so I decided to do a "clean" from the scenery editor

now every time I rebuild and relaunch the sim all my previous objects are marked as unknown and the scenery looks empty

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

See the Log when you build your package on the "Console" or execute your package directly with the "C:\MSFS SDK\Tools\bin\fspackagetool" project.xml
Sometimes when I delete the package folder I get error messages and the gltf objects are not generated.
I had to create some mising folders on the package folder.

Alfredo.

Another possible cause is if you've placed a compiled package in your Community folder and then try to work on the package source from another folder.

Cheers, Holger

Hello, would you help me please, I think i have a similar problem and i don't know what i did wrong, when i open my project now my poylgons are here but all my models are marked "unknonw".
I can't even find them in my object list... i checked my xml files and i think it's ok. I worked many days on these scenery and everything seems to be lost.
Thank you VERY much if you can help me. I tried to do what i read just above and execute my package with the fspackagetool but i'm not sure i'm doing this correctly.

The Objects showing as Unknown is happening without a specific pattern here. Seems like a bug.

The only pattern that I can see is that it tends to occur after the sim is updated. The sim must be maintaining a database of GUIDs (why it would do this I have no idea) which is revised with each sim update. Deleting and recompiling the offending package to the Community folder usually fixes this problem for me.

Yes, it is one solution that works sometimes.

In fact the GUIDs as you said are maintained somewhere and I am getting models without textures and no matter how many times I delete and re-export from Blender with new GUIDS or create a GUID from a generator, clean, rebuild etc. the objects in the Dev Mode maintain their old GUID.

The dev process has an unpredictable and unstable behavior. I wonder how commercial scenery made complex projects happen while I am trying to place few hangars in an airport project :)

Hi guys! I've the same problem! I've try to clean all, build all, build package, delete scenery from Community folder but nothing... I can't see nothing in editor! Have you another solution for this?
Thanks!!

If you get the Unknown label in the object list and you did all what you mentioned and still not showing try this, sometimes it works:

Click on the Unknown object, there is an option called Replace Object somewhere in the properties I think (Sorry MSFS is not running now) and then in the list of objects select the one that is supposed to be there, click Use. Save, build all, build package and open the project again to see if it shows.

The problem is that the object don't appear in Object window!=(

Update:
After a lot of time lost searching the problem I’ve tried to load my hedge model into SimpleScenary! Building package the object work in this scenery! So I went back to my scenery without reload the simulator and the Hedge work!! But...only it...any other buildings don’t work....
My question is...how can Simulator remember the object? This can be cause GUID conflict and don’t load the package? How can I clean the GUID store?

Thanks guys!

Yes I think there is a GUID related conflict. I hope Asobo will sort this issue in the next dev mode update.

Having the same issue as the OP. I did the FS packagetool fix and got all the nice compiled folders, went to load my BGL and still all UNKNOWN models on the scenery editor. Only the default scenery items like some cars I used are there.

Then from an old backup I used the progressed Airports XML Apron data to port over my progress to the old back, still no buildings (but my apron data is there with my new materials folder ported over from the progressed project).

I see that when I have UNKNOWN to all my models (literally 40 of them+) I have no connection with my modelLib folder as when i duplicate a models' folder I dont even get the console to budge anymore; path of my artProj is 100% fine, even matched entirely from a day old backup - this isnt my first rodeo, have been using this fine for months now. Out of the blue my 3D models have literally vanished (from a back and from even a new BGL with my progress), It was working 100% fine.

Very Very Strange.

Only thing different I did recently was place "sim objects" as reference points for jetway animation and I now cant remove them - I cant tell for certain but I want to say this started after I closed the session I brought those in. I cannot for the life of me delete them, they are unclickable and don't have a layer. I wonder if these issues correlate. Was wondering if anyone else have unknown scenery items out of the blue and wasnt able to solve any issues with the packagetool.exe.

Should I just give up? the day I wasted troubleshooting I could of placed them again in a brand new project.

Cheers.

I am lost for words, I have nothing left to troubleshoot here. I think I may just keep the apron and material data and start replacing dozens and dozens of models from scratch again.

Update:

Even when I now open a project from a week ago (which I know was 100% fine and was importing/opening materials and models with ease) I can now no longer import models with their textures. Even on models that I know for fact work since i deleted them and exported using the same method.

I am lost for words. What in Gods name is going on. Is this a GUID thing? The symptoms are impossible and inconsistent. Where can I oossibly go next?

When I load a project, I clean and compile it right away. This seems to force the modelLib to be read by the sim.

The Dev Mode has some little things that need to be polished. One thing I avoid and it scares me, is to overwrite the XML already in the model library folder of the project.

What I do now to be safe, if I need to update my 3D models, I compile and export the 3D objects to a different folder and copy only the .gltf and .bin files to overwrite those in the model library folder.

Few other quirks happen in Dev Mode, even after the latest update with the grouping functionality. Hopefully the user experience will be better one day.

Used to do that basically all the time as well.

Just like magic I can no longer import any building. Even from old projects that I know for certain where fine.

I think I have a major GUID issue. I wonder if theres a way to completey flush everything out or something. I d k....this is getting impossible to fix. The GUID on the properties of the unknown object matches a guid in the modelLib.....still just does NOT wanna show it.

When I open an old backedup project though i SEE them however, i can then not import buildings with textures (building that where already in of course and working fine).

Never overwrite it, i copy and paste elements. Always did this with no issues. My sim just magically can no longer import any building anymore, they are all unkown and when I open a project that had been fine from an old back I cannot brinf them in with texture. Getting the classic cannot write red console error.

This is insane, something else is hapening in the sim that destroyed this.

Bizarrely, if I add models to a previous project, they work in that scenery package. When I try and add them to another one, they don't! I have checked both projects (older and new) to check for any differences and asides the ICAO name, they are identical, but still no models....Weird...

Just did some tinkering and found that it is because the layout.json file isn't created when building or cleaning/rebuilding the package, any ideas on why it isn't creating this anyone? By the way it also doesn't create a Business or manifest json either...
