• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello all -
Brand new to this- been going thru the tutorials and all I see is the projects for planes - Other than inserting cubes an things-
How do you create obects that are dif shapes.
Does anyone know if there are any tutorials out there?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

There are quite some tutorials for scenery, but usually these are about houses which are indeed a collection of boxes. What kind of object do you want to model?

Well - buildings, houses would be a start - bridges- thingss like that.
What I'd like to find are tutorials on how to create the different shapes in an object like a house. Pitched roof for example. Archways through a bridge.
Thanks for your response

Hi,

Did you check the tutorial that comes with the FS2004 GMax gamepack? It explains how to build a house. This website also has some great tutorials.

Contrail - the FIRST thing you should do is just play around with the program. Within FSDS there are a series of tutorials and exercises that lead you through creating objects and such - start with the water tower tutorial.

Creating a "roof" for example, depends as much on your mood that day as to what program you're using - fsds, gmax, 3DSmax, there are different ways of making the same thing.

(Arno and die hard scenery modellers - do not read further)

I built a little outhouse (which now adorns one of my airfields) by placing as my backdrop image the image of a paper card model. I created all my planes on one view, then textured the whole thing using the same image.

Then, I simply "folded" the planes appropriately.

OF course, THAT method is "way out" there, but it proves that there's more than one way to skin the cat... :)

Contrail, if you'd like I can send you a couple FSDS source files for hangars that I've done. Not exactly "tutorials" but still you could see how I've created different structures and get some idea of how to go about making them. Don't forget, texturing is almost more important than shaping the objects. Without good textures, even the most accurate models will look like junk.

Learning to texture well is a whole different ballgame.

Hi Felix/Mike-
Yes -I have done the tutorials - water tower etc.
And Mike - I would appreciate that - I think I could deconstruct - and figure it out.
Things like pitched/arched roofs I'm not quite sure about.
Would appreciate the help
