• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX screen stall

In FSX my display settings are pretty much moderate. I may be flying along or or slewing aorund to check work progress on something I'm working on, and suddenly the screen freezes, then gets jerky... finally things smooth out and I continue on.

This might happen once or twice during an FSX session. I've adjusted sliders all over the place - I know it's not that- 99% sure at least. Cloud draw is fair to minimal. I might try simple clouds.

Most likely background services going on in XP but which ones are usually the culprit?

My machine- 2 gigs memory ddr. duel core motherboard 2 gig. Can't remember the front bus speed but it's not bad. ATI video card HD3600 series.

Yes frame rates drop in the toilet when this happens. Bob
 
Maybe the "Bufferpools" tweak could help you with this. Figure out your optimal settings - some report 3000 is a good value, some say 30,000,000 works better with them.
Search the web to find out how to change this setting - I am sure you will find more detailed information on that than I could possibly give.

Vitus Thanks. Many articles out there, none show how to. There is a db2 vers 7 or 8 but payware and no way to find out how to get it. Not interested in paying for something I should be able to tweak on my own (and mess things up). :) I'll keep looking. Thanx. Bob
 
You just need a text editor to change the setting. Open the fsx.cfg and add the line:

PoolSize=5000000
Try different values for the PoolSize to find a setting that matches your FS. There is also a very good tweaking program out there called "FlusiFix". Unfortunately its in German and no English manual is available as far as I know. Maybe you can find something similar on flightsim.com or avsim in English?

"Vitas- Thanx. It works better. Not so much stuttering. My screenstill does freeze but not as long, then after a few seconds it continues fine. This might happen once or twice during a flight. I don't know whether to increase or decrease the numbers, but I'll fiddle with it. Any further ideas let me know. Bob

glad to hear that you were able to enhance the performance - at least a little bit :o
I didn't know that there was a English version of Flusifix! In that case give it a try - there are some additional performance tricks explained in the program itself.
Again, I am not one of the tweakin' guys and I am sure you are better off with the advise of someone else then me! Have a look at the avsim forums and I am sure you will find heaps of discussions about FSX performance ;)

Vitus- That's wqhat we're all here for. The English version is in the manuals themselves. The program is still German. My German is quite rusty, but I can figure some of it out. The manual is nice in that is tells what each performance(or whatever it's called) does. Example would be click on fsx.cfg and there's a list below #1 thru 7 or 8 or whatever. The manual tells what is available in each number. Open that up - make adjustments and click the rectangle below.

This holds onto the changes. Then hit 'file' and then 'Beenden'. A window appears, e choices... top to bottom 1. This saves the file and opens FSX, 2. Saves the file only (look for the first word that says 'nur', "only" in German, 3. abort.

But there's something that troubles me, Vitus- When I unzipped it, my antivirus said there's a Trojan horse in it. It names the file prospeed.dll. The program won't run without it. I tried ignore, I tried heal.

I posted this in the forums of the website. I should get a reply soon. I'll let you know. Bob

Nach dem neuesten Update von "Avira AntiVir" wird die mit dem FlusiFix-2006 mitgelieferte ProSpeed.Dll fälschlicherweise als Virus gemeldet. Es ist wirklich nur ein Fehlalarm und der betrifft auf meinem Rechner gleich mehrere Dll's und auch Exe-Dateien, die eindeutig sauber sind. So wird u.a. sogar der Installer von Ultimate Traffic als Trojaner ausgewiesen.
Lest bitte mehr darüber im Forum.

Nachtrag:
Das Problem konnte mit Hilfe des Autors der Dll bereits gelöst werden. Alle von der Falschmeldung betroffenen User können sich eine neue Dll downloaden. Diese einfach entpacken und in den FlusiFix-2006-Ordner kopieren. Die alte Dll dabei überschreiben und schon hat der Spuk ein Ende. Im Komplettdownload des FF06 wurde die Datei ebenfalls schon ausgetauscht.

In short:
The Virus warning is a false alarm. The programmer of the Prospeed.dll solved this issue with the release of a new version. Simply move this file to the FlusiFix-2006 folder and overwrite the old file. You can find the file here:

Turn off your AV and disconnect from the internet while you are running FSX. Maybe a reinstall of your video drivers. I run a registry cleaner once in a while.
