• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Season issues

Thanks to Holger, Nick and some others here I managed to set up my own seasons.bgl file yesterday, but I seem to have 2 problems:

1. FSX lods at least 10 seconds longer (between 22+27%) with my custom LC, LC textures, LC blending and seasons. Does anybody know what impacts fsx most heavily? It seems to me that TIFFs for seasons should be as small as possible. I'm working with files of approx 120x80. That shouldn't be too big, should it?

2. The annoying issue: see attachment.
I've never seen this problem before, but the screenshot is actually default fsx. If LC tiles of the same type (that do not use blending) have different season settings you get very bad results, just like the barren tundra in the screenshot (Iceland default).
Is there any way to work around this? I need very specific season changes in Iceland, so I get this problem everywhere (but as it seems not with every LC type). Are there LC types that use blending even with neighbours of the same LC type?

Ok, I'll try to answer myself.

ad 1: it seems the loading times are heavily affected by custom LC textures only, not really by season files or LC.
How does ORBX and FTX do it, to load hundreds of custom textures without bringing fsx down to its knees? Is it important where those textures are stored?

ad 2: this seems to be a default LC bug indeed. Only seems to happen to "upland tundra", I'll have to see which blending file it uses. Until then I rather not use this LC type anymore.

One more EDIT to that: it seems like the error lies in the 901*.bmp blending files, which are used by only few landclasses including all those marshland and tundra LCs. So I'll see if I can find the error...

I don't have those addons, but I thought that at least for ORBX what they do is backup the default textures, and then the config program installs a new texture set over-writing the defaults. The impact would probably be any difference in amount of autogen.

Well, now I know that both issues are fsx bugs. :(

The loading times were dramatically influenced by a custom version of the 002*.bmp textures. If in your texture folder is any of those LC type bitmaps fsx almost dies.

I also found more blending bugs (001 - that was easy to fix) - I'm just a bit unhappy that there does not seem to be any source for that kind of fsx bugs or issues, or is there? Would be nice to collect those things somewhere.
