• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

Hey guys,


Can someone tell my what part/section of the effects file would one adjust to get the smoke of an effect to be sensitive to prop blast?

I wish to make a prop blast effect that kicks up dust (controlled by a gauge) and am experimenting with teh touch down effect (spirals around a bit) but need for it to be moving backwards via the thrust of the prop.

Start up effects have this feature...

It's just a suggestion, but "fx_wetenginewash.fx" might be a better file for you to experiment with since it is already a propwash effect.

It has three Emitters. The first two are backward moving smokestyle effect. The third Emitter is the same but is parallel to the ground. Together they create a three dimesional propwash effect. Set your weather to Rain and study the effect with something like the C172 to see if you think there's any mileage in it.

The "Z Particle Velocity" in the Emitter sections are what controls the backward moving aspect of the effect.

By messing around with Color Start and Color End parameters, I would think you could create quite a cool effect for use in dusty or dry conditions.

If you attached it to the [smokesytem] in the aircraft.cfg file you could turn it off and on quite easily via a throttle percentage setting or suchlike in an XML gauge.

You could possibly also attach it in the [lights] section reather than the [smokesytem] but it might not look so good and would possibly suffer from the "burning smoke" appearance at dawn/dusk/night.

I don't know if it is possible to vary the "speed" of the effect interactively as the throttle increases, if that's what you were thinking.

I have a gauge presently that Im experimenting with that runs the effect. Should be interesting to see it running.
