• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Setting material template options

Hi Arno,

This is a feature request for the feeble minded who cannot always remember to apply custom material templates. Would it be possible to include the specular color for the default transparent and default opaque templates in the MCX options? Depending on the sim settings one chooses, I think specular can be quite exaggerated in P3D. I have a variety of custom templates but I have to admit that I often forget to use them, each time, every time. Setting the colors for the default templates would be a big help!

Thanks for all you do for us,

Larry

Hi Larry,

I'm not sure that's a good idea. There will be many cases where people are setting the material settings for transparency, but don't want to alter the specular color as well. So I think it would not be logical to do so.

Can you not create your templates with the specific parameters you require and then save them as titled selections in the drop down, for example "For P3D Export" and "For FSX Export"? I have custom specular settings templates, because I don't use specular maps, default is 255,255,255 and way too shiny. So I have a 200 level, a 150 and a 20 in my presets to provide a measure of control over how bubble plastic my models look. Military and old stuff gets 20,20,20 and there is almost no shine at all, but zero specularity makes the model look cartoonish.

Thanks for taking a look Arno.

Right about creating templates Rick. I have a bunch of them... but sometimes I forget to use them on minor models. I guess I'll warn the beta testers I'm prone to this. :-)
