• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Setting the sim time fails.

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to synch FSX to an external simulation engine. Freezing the aircraft and setting lat/lon/alt/pitch/bank/heading isn't the issue and works great. What I wonder is, if anyone has successfully been able to set the time of day of the free flying session successfully, e.g. to trigger a night flight remotely.

I tried it using for example the event ZULU_YEAR_SET and retrieved the value afterwards - it was unchanged. The same for the hours/minutes values.

Any pointers are appreciated.

Right - That notifies you when user sets that particular variable through UI. But it seems, according to SDK, that the variable "ZULU YEAR" is NOT settable. What variable are you actually trying to set?

I'm trying or I've tried setting any variable for time manipulation, haven't had any success although I've seen other posts, claimint it is possible in free flight mode.

With FSUIPC you can write to the Zulu time address offset, so that may be where you need to go.

Simconnect does allow you to save and load a FLT file... so you could save a flight, change the time in the file, and load the saved/changed flight back in, and perhaps delete the FLT file when done. I don't know how much time this would take to accomplish, but it should work.

I'll try via FSUIPC and it works via the FLT file writing/reloading mechanism, although it has some drawbacks such as interrupting the user session during reloading of the FLT file.

Thanks though!

Even with FSUIPC there will most probably be a delay, as the sim will need to recompute the sun position lighting, reload textures if going from day to night, etc...
