Hello Arno, a question:

is there any limitation on the size of the OSM file to use?

I'm having problems with a region to 3.8 GB of data OSM, in practice
freezes the reading of the file to about one third and does not go further.

I made regions from 1.5 GB with no problems in about an hour.

My computer is:
windows vista64
8 GB of RAM
intel Q9550
40 GB free disk space
12 GB virtual memory.

Thank you.

Antonio.

Hi,

There is no real limitation. But when reading the file all objects are put in memory. So once your RAM is full and windows starts swapping it will become busy slow.

It can help to only load the layers that you really need, that keeps the memory usage down.

Thanks Arno,

He had imagined it was the memory full, what I find strange is that
a couple of months ago the same OSM file slightly smaller (a few MB
update 2 months of data always about 3.5 GB) had compiled without problems ....

What do you mean by:
"It can only help to load the layers That You really need, That keeps the memory usage down."
In the SPC file loads only the necessary things specifivate in the configuration file I'll attach the text to the post.

Do you know of any program that splits files OSM?
With Qgis I delete the data is not useful? And save again in OSM? ..

Thank you.

Antonio.

I see you already specified you only want highway, building, landuse, etc.

That's what I meant. Only select the features you need there will save memory.
