• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Sloped runways with models

So I have had quite an adventure learning how to manipulate many aspects of the SDK to design a good looking airport, however, I have hit a wall with one thing. I want to make my runways use my custom texture and custom 3d model. I can create my texture, then lay an apron on top of the runway and call it a day, but I don't like the repetition in the texture that shows up, and I want to model it. I am a bit new to the modeling world and I'm using blender, but as far as I know, if I just place a model of my runway it has to be flat and it just won't follow the terrain and slope, am I correct? Is there a way to get the runwaymodel to follow the terrain, or do I have to modify my model and create a slope on it, then terraform msfs to "match up" my created slope?

Thanks

Hello:

AFAIK, ICAO MMHO is 27 Feet lower on the SW end compared to the NE end of the RWY, so you may wish to make the terrain match that. ;)

IIUC, you want to Terra-form surrounding MSFS-2020 terrain to aesthetically meet up with / blend into the edges of your 'sloped' G-Poly 3D model.

AFAIK, in MSFS-2020, like P3Dv5, we now can have sloped RWYs that AI Traffic will be able to navigate, so a flat / level RWY is no longer required.

If you wish to use MSFS-2020 default terrain polygons, the mapped textures will display at a internally limited lower resolution.

If you use a 3D RWY model as a 'sloped' Ground Polygon (aka "G-Poly") the custom texture image resolution will have no practical resolution limit.

Issues of repetitive default MSFS-2020 PBR texture tile patterns versus use of a sliced 1-piece custom synthetic high resolution photo-real PBR RWY texture image are inherently a 3D modeling work-flow topic that might best be discussed in the Blender forum ...to receive more replies.

Thank you so much for your reply. So yes, I guess I will just have to model in blender, give it a slope, set the textures and pbr. After I will go to the sim and terraform the terrain to match my model. I just wanted to check if there were any other methods that I may be missing. Thank you again for your answer, I will start learning these methods. BTW, how did you know I am doing MMHO?

IIRC, from one of your prior posts here at FSDev with a screenshot of Blender showing MMHO in the project or Material name. ;)

I loaded up MMHO in Google Earth Desktop Edition and verified the airport configuration matched the Blender image (so I could advise better).
