• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,

There are two options:

  1. When you design your object you attach a smoke effect to it, then in the end the effect is inside the MDL
  2. If you did not make the effect yourself or don't want to alter it, you can also place the effect directly with XML code at the coordinates of the object

I don't think EZ-Scenery has the ability to place effects.

Hi,

I am not sure actually, in FS004 a MDL with only an attachpoint did not work, for FSX I am not sure if it changed. So maybe, but it would be a bit overkill to make a MDL for only an effect, then you can also place it directly with the Effect XML command.

Hi,

(Smoke is an 'effect' = xxx.fx file. You can find a variety of effects in your FSX effects folder including smoke effects. If you want to create your own effect, you would have to start editing one of those effects, that is the easiest way to do it.)

In order to place your effect in FSX, there is the basic xml that you have to make (an example of which you can find in the SDK) or you can do as I do and use whisplacer to add an effect to a certain location.

(Watch it, though, there are two kinds of effects: the ones that you add to aircraft and the ones that you add to scenery. Adding effects to aircraft is rather simple in comparison as you just add the title of your effect to the aircraft.cfg in the effects, lights or, in your case, the smoke section. The only thing you still have to do afterwards is to finetune the coordinates so as to have the effect appear at the right spot.)

Hi, I have a problem.
1 .- I open whisplacer, File / New
2 .- Connect to Flight Simulator X
3 .- Add effects / fx_smoke_Sml
4 .- Do not know if I have to click File / Manual compile or click Save As

Anyway, I parked the effect when you run FSX.

Only once I got to saw the effect, but not really how I got.

I can outline the steps?

Thanks

click save as ... AND manual compile and put the bgl in your addon scenery/ scenery folder or any other folder that you make
For example:
addon scenery/
house/
scenery/ chimneysmoke.bgl
texture/ ...
In case you make a new scenery folder do not forget to add to and activate the scenery in your addon scenery list in FSX.
