• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Smoothing around windows

Hi,
Ok had this small problem for a while and have never really solved it. After I have cut passenger windows from a tube and placed poly's to re-skin around the window I end up with the skin wrinkled (only very slightly but it can still be seen if you look hard enough) Does anybody know how to correct this or is there another way around this?

Hi Felix, no didnt use the boolean method as it is only a last resort for me. I did it the ye olde fashoned way. I hope this will show what I mean

Just out of interest I have a similar problem, but by using the boolean method.

How would I clean up excess vertices?

After doing the cut, when I apply 'polygon smoothing' it looks terrible.

Sorry that I haven't been around this thread in a long time.

CLeaning up (vertices) after an FSDS boolean or similar cut is basically an exercise in patience.

My first action is to split off the group of polygons that I have to clean up into their own separate part, and actually save the part and reload it (or as others would do - simply copy and paste) into a new (inactive) model page.

That way I have a clean part, uncluttered by the rest of the model.

THe cleaning up process is simply to join, or delete vertices that are unnecessary, and really don't add anything. It's really visualizing the wireframe mesh and manually deleting points and rebuilding the surrounding polygons. A lot of tedious, but ultimately rewarding, work.

Thanks for that Felix. :)

As a beginner I'll maybe limit my use of boolean as much as possible until I'm on maybe my second plane. I've still so much to learn but I'm enjoying it, as long as I take it slowly. :D
