• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Smoothing causes trouble..

Hi everyone!

I am modelling an ultralight (Sting 2000 Carbon) and came across this error... When I export my model without smoothness (Smooth or Meshsmooth) everything works just fine.. The mdl is compiled, the bgl is compiled and my model is working properly... If I try to add smoothness it crashes on the mdl exporting...

I modeled the airplane in Softimage XSI, export it to 3ds and then worked inside Gmax.. One of the errors occured was the ..."colocated vertices in triangle" which I always have when adding smoothing...

Any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

When you "add smoothing" are you working with polygon smoothing groups, or are you adding a meshsmooth (or similar subdivision) modifier?

In my honest opinion, you're better off modeling in the details how you want them to look instead of trying to make it look pretty with a meshsmooth modifier. I'm assuming that the exporter doesn't like the modifier in the stack during export so you either need to collapse it before exporting or come up with an alternative.

good luck,

JonP

No idea. But you can try to reset scale and transform. These two buttons saved my bottom quite some times

Could also try selecting all verts and welding at a threshold of .001. This is also a good practice especially after "Attaching" objects to a mesh.

What is the triangle count?

I found out that only with smooth I do not get any errors but when I preview my model on MDL Tweaker it does not show the smoothness..

I cannot stay with the model not smoothed.. You can imagine how it will be on FS... :p

I figured out the problem and everything is ok now... It isn't a GMax problem, just that mdl tweaker is not reading smoothness..

Now I am trying to find a decent bgl compiler... lol
