• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

"Soft Concrete" Platform - Helipad

Hi everyone, so, I've made a helipad in 3DS Max 2015 with the "Cone" primitive object.

Then added a platform "Concrete" to that cone with the ACES Tool. Anytime that I go to land on the helipad, I sink right through it. What could be the problem? I've tried the approach of making a separate "Plane" and then raising it just below top of "Cone" but that also did not work.

Thank you.

FS9 or FSX?

If FS9, you would have to exit and restart FS9 after placement for the platform to be activated.

It's a bit difficult to tell what's happening by the screenshot which does not show the helipad in its entirety.
Are you sitting at true ground level below a raised helipad?
Is your helipad high above the ground and you are sitting somewhere between the top of the pad and the ground?
How are you placing it? BGL.comp, ADE, Instant Scenery or EZScenery?
At the very least, check the position of the hardened platform in 3DS Max to make sure you have it positioned just below the surface textures.
Is your hardened platform invisible? If so, you might make another version with just the platform (plane) itself with some opacity added so it is visible, and then place it in the sim somewhere above the ground in order to verify that it is hardened. If it is not, you will know that there is a step you have missed somewhere in the process. Once you have a verified hardened platform, you can go back, remove the opacity, and import it to your helipad project, positioning it just below the surface textures, and recompile.

Hope this helps till someone who knows what they are talking about comes along. :)

Thank you for the reply, every contribution counts! I was working on it for FSX.It seems that there is a problem with the ACES tool set.I've followed the same procedure in GMax and it worked without a glitch!
