• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Some questions about objects animations

Hi
I begin in the animations world! I made some animations on my airport. With some tutorials and a little patience and time, I can now make them working properly under fsx.
But I've some problems / questions to perfect them:

- How to precisely place an animation in FSX (if an object turn around buidings for example). Actually I use InstantScenery ...
- My animations are loops (a car turn around a loop). I would like to create timing constraints like one animation who start one time all the X minutes for 2 turns for example. if it's possible how do that ?
- With a limited number of frames, the longer the loop, the higher the speed of the object. Is it possible to create a long way, for example a vehicle who turn around the airport, but with a normal and realistic speed?
Is it possible to increase the number of frames above 500 ? I can't make it with MCX (except a mistake or an oversight )

With this, I could make some more interesting animations!

Can you help me ? And of course thank you !

Luc

  1. As your animation is still an object you should place it at the position where the center point of your Blender scene is. assuming you use a photoreal image for reference this position should be easy to find, meanwhile placing it using realtime preview will be very hard. Is it possible to manually type in the coordinates in InstantScenery? Otherwise you could use whisplacer (it's possible there) or you might have to dig into hand writing the xml.
  2. IMHO the best way to do that is to make that whole action (both turns AND the waiting time) into one animation loop. Then assign an non random ambient animation tag to the object, so FS will constantly loop the animation.
  3. FSX (so most probably P3D too) supports unlimited animation lengths (I think it was locked at 1024 frames in FS9). In order to create such an animation in Blender you have to increase the animation end number which defaults to 250.
Additionally I just looked for a good tutorial how to animate a motion along a path in cse you still need it:

Hope this helped a bit :)

Hello Dave ! Thank you for help me

1- Ok, I understand. It's easy finally !

2- Aie, I don' understand (I think I still have some gap ...). For now I assigned to my objects an ambient tag (Ambient, Ambient 1 ...).But I dont" see where I can assign a random or not random
Ambient animation :(

3- I can set the animation end number from 250 to 500. But I can't go beyond this number. When I load the file in mcx to create the bgl, in the animation editor, it's blocked at 500 !

well for point 2: scroll down a bit in the animation tool in Blender, you should find some tags called "NonRandomAmbient...".
for point 3: That could be an MCX limitation but I just remembered that Blender is able to export the placement xml file (you can even enter the placement data). You still have to compile it though by dragging it onto BglComp.exe. That way you don't need MCX.

Ok Dave.
For the point 2 I found a non ambient tag (I didn't not see it, sorry). But I don't understand how set this : for example, I would like a car start a loop, follow it and stop at the end for, say, 5 minutes, before start again to move. I don't see where I can set that ...if it's possible

I'll see for the point 3 this way, It seem very useful in this case !

I don't think that this is possible for scenery objects to stop the animation, wait an exact amount of time and then replay it (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong).
That was my suggestion: make the waiting time a part of your animation by just making the vehicle stand still for a few thousand frames. Then you get the desired result through a constantly looping animation.

Yes this is what I done. Then I continue like that.

I must see to the MCX limitations (if it's the case) for the animation lenght in the good forum.!

Just a last question please . I don't see how export a placement xml file with blender.

as far as I recall (never used it yet) it is among the export options. When you export the object to FS you can check "export placement xml" as an export option.

Hi
Sorry, I come back !!!

I just saw a problem, during my last test : When I'm in FSX (same with P3D), in situation in a plane, the animations does'nt appear, according to the angle of view. I think at least because if I move, my vehicles appear again.

Do you know this problem ?
