• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Some Questions

Hello all,

I have just install AI Flight Planner after several failed attempts to get payware products to do what I want - this one works just fine so congratulations to the devs for that!

I have a few general queries about how flight plans are handled so i thought you guys would be the best bet to get them answered.

If I create a flight plan to take off at midday and fly to another airport 30 minutes away, it autocompletes the arrival time, all well and good. However, if I override this arrival time, what does this mean for the flight, does it circle, fly slower?

If I want to create a flight for a plane doing circuits, the only way I have managed successfully is to create a two leg plan, all desitnations and departues set to the same airport, then toggle TNG. Is this the prescribed way or can I achieve this with just one leg?

Is there any reason why a successful flight plan for a cessna say, does not work when I use a Grand Caravan on it instead? The airport is equipped to handle both these planes.

Is there any way to set waypoint along a flight plan for the AI? I've had no end of plane flying into mountainsides when I'd prefer them to follow a valley - perhaps this is beyond the scope of FSX AI planes in general?

No doubt I'll think of some more over the next few days,, but would be grateful if someone in the know could clarify these.

Cheers

Welcome, Oli

As far as I know, all flight plans require two legs, including TnGs.

Seems when you change planes in a FP, AIFP produces an "Override ETA" because of the different cruise speeds. Delete that entry and the plan should work.

I think that problem has been fixed. Which version are you using?

Way points are a function of the airport you are using, rather than FPs. Is this a stock airport where planes are hitting mountians? Also, you can't use just any plane for AI. I have seen some that land far short of the runway and travel underground.

Bob

Hi Bob,

Thanks for some of the pointers.

Regarding the override ETA, haven't noticed it causing issues, I was just curious what it would achieve if I forced it off the original time.

I'm trying to fly some planes around the Sion Airport area in Switzerland. ALl stock airports, although admittedly this is pretty severe terrain to navigate in. Are you saying that airports should have approaches built into them to allow navigation around tricky rerrain features? I assumed they just had a straight glidescope that planes locked onto and flew from there.

Thing is, particularly int hese kinds of terrain, it would be useful to specify waypoints completely independently of the airports to allow flights along valleys for example - perhaps this just isn't an option?

I'm using the latest version 1.6.06 so not sure why the Caravan is a no show.

Cheers

Regarding the Caravan, make sure that after you change anything you are hitting the "Save Edits" button.

All Airports that accept AI have some kind off approach code. Either a simple visual code, or an ILS code. The folks at ADE are creating a system by which you can write a curved approach. Just the thing to follow valleys.

As far as AI hitting mountians, are particular planes doing this, or are all of them? And which airport. I'm not at my FSX computer right now,so I can't look at it yet. But I can later.

Oli, Bob seems to have responded to (or is handling) everything except your query about what happens when you override the system-calculated ETA. It's really quite simple, AIFP recalculates the cruise speed and adjusts arrival time at the destination and at each point along the way based on the user-entered ETA.

Don

Well, I've followed AI craft on a normal flightplan, but never one with an extended ETA. My guess would be that the plane flys some round about route. I have seen AI do some funny things.

Bob

No, Bob. The route is defined in the traffic file as a series of entry and exit times to/from the AI sectors along the direct flight path. AIFP (like TTools before it) adjusts these times to reflect whatever cruise speed is necessary for the AI to depart on schedule and arrive at the edge of the destination AI sector 15 minutes before the overridden ETA.
