• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Somewhere texture files must be getting lost on export...or something???

I am working on the 1st layer textures for my groundpolys in Gmax. I am only using 3 diffrent textures for the taxiways and aprons (runway is in a diffrent .bgl)
I opened them with the UVW map and put the textures on the diffrent polys per usual, but when i export the .MDL and open it in MCX, it isnt finding my textures -and also- its trying to use some other texture thats not even in my model!!

here is the shot of my working window in gmax

this is pretty simple, but here are the files - after being converted to .dds dxt5, all in the same folder for MCX to read....

this is what i get when i load up the .MDL in MCX. the files that go with the model are in the folder right with the.MDL, but for some reason it wont load them


I suspected as much but when i put them in FSX this is what i get. I have no clue where the "grey taxiways" color came from. it seems to come from gmax somehow, but i couldnt begin to say from where. i only added textures.

you can see that only one of my 3 textures shows up (over top of the ade afcad) and theres even polys with the same texture on them that dont show up at all!


so far i havent had any problems with the textures i made "not showing up" after i export my .MDL
any idea what this could possibly be?

Hi,

The one texture reported missing is not in your texture folder. Apparently you assigned it to some polygons in Gmax.

Maybe that's also where the grey polygons come from. I would check which Gmax material has it.

Thanks for the advice on this. I went to material editor and found a couple textures that had apearantly been used at sometime. the fix was to use the utility to remove materials from each individual poly, then reapply them. took approximately 5 minutes (after i sat for 4 hours yesterday trying to fix it!!)
