• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE Sound effects

Does anyone know where I could download some sound effects? Things like animal sounds,Birds,Crickets, water surf, etc... I want to 'spice-up' my project with some sound effects, I know how to create the effects, I just can't seem to find any short .wav sound effect files. I have a few of the ORBX sound files, but not all of them. I tried ripping some from a sound fx CD, but the files are way too big and cause FSX to rapidly loose FPS severely.

IIRC, FSX' sound sub-system is limited to only 22,000 Hz, so CD audio quality at 40k / 48k Hz not necessarily going to even be heard.

I would use Audacity or an equivalent audio editor to edit at 48k, then down-sample to 22,000 Hz for use as linked WAV sounds in FSX.

The Windows Direct-X Sound sub-system may be able to play 48kHz files elsewhere than in FSX, but IIRC, FSX may 'cap' at 22,000 Hz.

Also, one should always up-sample any WAV to 48kHz for editing; then down-sample for actual use (22,000 Hz is adequate for most apps.)

Otherwise audio quality degrades with each edit / save operation performed at lower sampling rates.

I edited it down to 20k ( there is no 22k in my sound editor) but still not working. this is just weird. I've always had problems with sound in FSX, wonder if it's a 'bug' or something wrong with my sound drivers. I tried updating the driver but the one I have is the only one available for this machine. It has a 'on-board' sound card, so I am limitted to whatever 'old' driver is available. All other sound effects work, just not the new one.

Modern sound chipsets on motherboards are actually rather high quality, and have trouble-free drivers with full feature sets. :pushpin:

I've really never had any sound problems on this thing it uses a AMD sound device and it has always worked flawlessly with great sound and very good quality. Dell does make great systems with the highest quality devices, they are just a bit proprietary in some areas. This thing was built back in the late 90s.

The nice thing about Dell (and Compaq / HP ...at least for a while), was they kept their driver sets available online for many years.

This is true, not many pc companies let you download driver sets for free, most of them make you pay a fee to download updates. I've always had a dell and always will. The nice thing is, that parts are readily available for them, and now even some after-market places carry dell stuff. Most all of the computer centers in my town deal with dell.
