• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Sound insulation?

I'm behind the Icon A5 Insane Performance Mod and I'm having some trouble reducing the amount of engine/prop noise that comes into the cockpit.

At first I thought this was due to engine tuning, but even when using the stock engine the A5 is pretty loud. Whether it's realistic or not I want to change this - using the SDK documentation I found what I believe to be the correct place to make these changes.

From the sound.xml file:

This defaulted to negative -20 for "Insualation_ExitClosed" - but no matter what changes I make there seems to be no difference. I should mention that this also originally pointed to the tbm930 but I did update to rev_inside_Icon.

Hoping someone can help me here, there are other much more powerful planes that sound very comfortable inside when using the headset simulation setting.

SDK says value should be -24 to 0 in decibels. I guess putting in -100 is not going to make any difference from using -24 and -24 is 4db quieter than -20db.

Still seems something is broken, if it's a flat value of decibels then the Icon at -20 should be quieter than the VL3 which is at -12.

I didn't bother getting it to work, I think it's tied to the exit_door simvar anyhow whereas our Airframe uses a canopy. Ultimately I just made my own insulation effect in wwise by making a 3rd "insulation" blend track along with the inside/outside tracks, and used RTPCs tied to the Canopy_open simvar to create a much better insulation effect. This way you can also blend in sound from the exterior sounds, use a lowpass filter and so on however you choose.

Happy to help with advice but unfortunately I can't give anything out as I'm working on a paid product for a 3rd party team. I actually came across something similar to my method in the documentation the other day somewhere I think (possibly in the shared RTPC section?). Give it a good read and use the example in the SDK + the templates to help figure everything out
