    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

sp2 sdk gmax won't export

hi everyone,

somehow everytime there is a new SDK servicepack out i experience problems with GMAX.

i have recently updated my hardware to run FSX Acceleration in directx 10 preview mode on vista.

i reinstalled gmax. then i installed the SDK from the FSX installation disc. i ran the SDK service pack 1 update, then the SDK service pack 2 update. i took the FSXGamePack for GMAX from the modeling folder in the SDK and dropped it into the gamepack folder in GMAX. I started GMAX, worked fine, opened a project i am working on, worked fine.

however when exporting from GMAX i get no error message yet the .mdl file in the aircraft folder i wanted to update has not been modified. as if nothing happend.

did I forget to install something else? anybody have any clue?

help appreciated, thanx!

everyone disregard my previouse post, i've figured it out.

windows vista won't let you modify any file in the programs folder unless you mess around with the different security settings and administrator settings in vista. what i did was to export the files into a work directory and then copied them into FSX.

i guess you guys already knew that and i am looking a fool for not knowing this. anyway for those who are experiencing the same problem, that's the answer.

Not all of us have jumped over to the dark side, so it's good information to have ..... :)

(Note to Fr. Bill - I meant VISTA, not the "other" dark side)

I knew that, Felix!

Now "Dakota" knows why so many of us Vista users do not install anything into the default \Program Files locations... ;)

Besides, I much prefer short paths such as C:\FSX and C:\GMax and C:\FSX_SDK to those insanely long, convoluted and inaccessible paths the default installations create...
