• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Specular Mapping

Hello,...

Glad you have it working....

Concerning the differences between B&W and Diffuse,... I'm not seeing any.

Though,... what could be causing your Bump maps to appear not as sharp or strong could be the fact that the alpha channel appears as "black" or transparent. What I would suggest before ANY conversion is to Flatten or remove the Alpha channel.

Hi Doug,
Thank you for the suggestions. I will try to implement it.

Thanks,

Gents, there are particular things to do to bump maps for FS, especially regarding alpha channel. Check this in the Wiki:-

Thanks, hairyspin for your reference.

Unfortunately though, Manochvarma isn't using either Photoshop Pro or The GIMP which uses a Normalmap plugin (either the NVidia or otherwise). The photo editor, Photoshop Creative Cloud 2017 (CC) that he has, comes with a Normalmap creation tool already installed. Upon seeing a normal map created with such, either desaturated or not, the files are the same. The only thing he has to be aware of, prior to using the internal normalmap tool within CC 2017, an alpha channel isn't needed or necessary. The MCX conversion tool will create and convert the channels (RGB) accordingly, so it can be used by FSX. There is more than 1 way to accomplish what is needed.

Hi Hairyspin,

Yes, i have gone through the steps before and i think Saving in FSX format can done by MCX texture converter.

Thanks, hairyspin for your reference.

You are right Doug ;)

No worries Doug, I'm not an MCX user for most of what I do so wasn't aware of that.
