• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Split .shp file?

So I've been trying to get autogen trees created for the payware photoscenery that I have. I've got the OSM data and Split Vector Layer with QGIS to isolate the natural_type__forest.shp file from the natural.shp file.
Then I run ScenProc using the following;

IMPORTOGR|F:\photoscen\Split\natural_type__forest.shp|*|*|NOREPROJ
#
SPLITGRID|AGN
#
CREATEAGNPOLYVEG|FTYPE=POLYGON;type=forest|{e8b937fd-a1f2-4bd5-8548-2c80d30102af}
#
EXPORTBGL|FSX|AutoGIre|F:\photoscen\AGN

ScenProc starts processing but crashes inexplicably having to be closed after 15 minutes or so. My working assumption was that the .shp file input was too large, is that likely? It covers the whole of Ireland. So I'm trying to split the original into smaller sections, how might I do so with QGIS? I tried loading the natural_type__forest.shp and Vector > Research Tools > Vector grid which produces a grid and then loading that .shp file on top of the original. Am I going in the right direction and what do I then do if so?

Hi,

What's the error you get when scenproc stops working? Is it an out of memory error.

Also how big is the shapefile? If I remember correctly up to around 300 mb should be OK.

If you can preprocess the data by cutting it in chunks that will help.

Btw, last command should be EXPORTAGN not EXPORTBGL.

Aha

Thanks again Arno! That explains the likely answer for the next question I had.
Firstly the forests .shp file is less than 8MB now that I look at it so that's not it. There was no indication of any kind to tell me what happened, it just crashed.
The program scenProc.exe version 1.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

I have 8Gigs of RAM with an i5 at 4.4G Boost
Secondly, I ran ScenProc for a .shp file containing houses and it ran to what was reported as a successful conclusion but produced no .bgl, I will do it again with the EXPORTAGN command instead. I don't know if any of the above is helpful :o

Hi,

Less than 8 mb doesn't really sound big. That should work fine. But if it covers the whole of Ireland doing the SPLITGRID step will take quite some time. But it shouldn't hang on that.

Unfortunately the error message doesn't give me a clue what went wrong. So I'm afraid I don't have other tips for now.

new release

Fortunately the latest release and using the EXPORTAGN command worked a treat for the forest, on to the buildings now. ;)
