• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Spotlights

I attached a spotlight to each of the two lamp posts at the gate of my Naval Air Station Scenery and as far as MDCx it seemed to work perfectly. Got them positioned; cones and length adjusted and exported a bgl fsx scenery. When I install it into ADEx and compile it, opening up FSX there are no spotlights just darkness. HELP Please!

Those spotlights that you used are for P3D. They don't work in FS9 or FSX. I did the same thing six or eight months ago.:(

They are only supported from P3D v4 indeed. For prior versions the light is exported as a normal light effect.

I reckon then that it's a "defect" in FS9/FSX that it's not supported and as said above or maybe elsewhere never will be corrected now. If it IS it will be in MSFS. But as a normal light effect don't I get some kind of light on the ground NOT pitch darkness at the gate? I can get light from the "ramp light" but I also get a lamp pole I do not want. I already have the vintage 1950 light poles I created in Sketchup in position.

Hi,

It's not a defect, a spotlight feature was simply not there in FSX and that will also not change anymore. LM only introduced that kind of effect in P3D v4.

Sometimes it can be faked by adding the glow as ground polygons onto the ground. That's an approach developers use sometimes.

I downloaded something about that from here in FsD using Gmax. Is that what you think might work? My rudimentary knowledge of Gmax should allow me to create polygons like they suggest.

Here is an example of a spotlight effect that is available in the resources section of this site.

I apologize I forget the author, but he is a robust contributor. You're welcome to download this addon and reverse engineer it. The effect has limitations, basically if I remember correctly, it is set at an elevation and everything viewed through it appears lighter. In this case, it lights parts of the water and tower, which I believe also has a night texture.

thank you I'll try that later and report success (I hope).

Didn't get that to work OR the GMAX post. It just gave me a box not an effect. Went to MDCx and was able to get the same effect I was going to try and use in GMAX to attach perfectly to the top of the gate post lamps. Problem though, I need to illuminate the ground. I did this at NAS Cecil Field Gate House pefectly and can't find that file (as usual) to show me what effects I used. I had 3 bulbs in each fixture attached to the sides and illuminated the road under each one.
