• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

startup error

since the move to the new architecture i've been getting strange errors
most of the time it happens mainly when scenProc is initially lunched
ill be getting of of these two errors

err1.jpg

or

err2.jpg

ill need to close and reopen few times until scenProc is started without one of these errors popping up
i have this behavior on all my workstation since major architectural change and only with recent builds since

rarely the script fails in the middle of execution (happened three or four times past few days),
ill get the second error and the job is terminated
note scenProc doesn't restart itself when this happens;
but all changes made to the script are retained when reopened

let me know which info i can provide to help pinpoint this issue
this accrues on both win8.1 & 7

to avoid any version change issue; i also deleted scenProc user App data folder; which didn't help

I too have been getting these start-up crashes. Did several times at first but as of late... no. Used the full install of scenPROC as of today's download.

Just wanted to update seeing lot's of start=up crashes as of late with the latest version. I tend to have 2-3 versions of scenPROC open at a time and not sure if that is now contributing to the issue. Just gotta say I luv the new "undo" button. That has already saved my butt last night! :p

there is a problem with the undo and possibly the save feature
there's seem to be a limited undo buffer

and for some odd reason changes made in scenProc to a script are automatically saved
i just had a case where i was testing a script; after some time of making changes and not saving
i wanted to go back to my starting point only i found out my original script was saved with my last test attempt

Yeah, I noticed scripts seem to automatically be saved as well. It actually helped me, though, since I forgot to save it before closing scenProc. :p

Hi,

I haven't noticed the startup errors here. Did you both do a clean install without old files present in the same folder? Also check that .NET 4.0 is installed.

About the undo, scenProc does indeed save the files in between to do the validation, etc. So that is by design, but maybe not really as expected. I'll see if I can improve that or offer unlimited undo :)

Thank you Arno, no i didn't do a clean install initially
although i never use the upgrade package; i always DL the full install and overwrite files
trying to isolate the issues, i then deleted my scneProc install dir, my AppData scneProc dir
then installed the latest clean full version; but i am still getting the errors

i thought .NET4 was native with win8.1,
i just double checked; i do run .NET4 on my win7 stations (maybe not the latest though; not a fan of updating if not needed :) )

Windows 8.1 does ship with .NET 4.0 pre-installed. It's .NET 3.5 and older that's not included by default.

Hah, looks like I have everything installed except 4.0. Thought you were using 4.5? I'll install it and also delete my scenPROC direct and do a fresh install.

Mmmmm, just deleted my scenPROC directory and re-installed scenPROC full version. Still getting crashes. Tried installing .NET 4.0 and installer says I already have it installed or I have a higher version. Could it be I cannot install 4.0 because I have 4.5.2 installed? Seems everytime it crashes it list a different .dll as the culprit. I am running Windows 7 PRo 64bit. Here's the latest error message:

Here's what I got after opening the program. This time it crashed when I tried to open a SPC file:

Humm, those dll files are not mine unfortunately. So it seems something in the .net framework. Let me see if I can find more about this.

Thx. Download the entire program again just to make sure I did not have a corrupt download. Same issues, same dll errors. :(

How frequent does the crash happen? Maybe I should just try to start the deployed version multiple times.

Right now it is happening every time. Soetimes I can get it to open but if I select a SPC file using various ways it will crash or if I get that file loaded it will crash when I start the process.

Update.... sometimes when I open the program does not fully render like when I used the drop down tab to open a file I get a blank window. Just now I did get it to open a file and get it to render! So I guess it is crashing 90% of the time not 100%.

Hopefully I can reproduce it somehow, but if it doesn't crash on my machine that might be hard.

I'm pretty much dead in the water with the latest version :( Just crashes too many times to use. Is there any way to get the previous version?

Nevermind - I was able to pull off an older version from a backup.

Hi,

I had some time this evening to have a look at this issue. I have been able to reproduce it and a new development release is on the way to the web server now (should be there in a few minutes).

The problem had to do with some changes with the registry keys I made recently. It seems the P3D v2 registry key contains many leading /0 characters and that made another .NET function crash. The new version will trim those.

To get rid of the crash at startup you probably need to delete the user configuration files in the AppData folder first, since the faulty path is in there already.

Nice, will give 'er a go. I'll just delete the entire folder and start fresh. As always, thx Arno for such a quick response.
