• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello. How everybody here knows, put add-ons and new scenarios always generate errors on the game. But this one is driving me crazy! Always I satrt the game I receive this error message:

Error_fsxstart.jpg

I already removed all the Add-ons scenarios and aircrafts but this keeps the same. (I already re-installed too)

Any help? :(

Uninstalling FSX does not delete the folder where the FSX cfg. lives. What OS are you using?

FSX Startup Problem

Uninstalling FSX does not delete the folder where the FSX cfg. lives. What OS are you using?

Bob

I'm Using:

Windows XP Professional SP2
Intel Core Duo 1.66GHz
1Gb RAM DDR 2
128Mb Video ATI Mobility X1600
...
Genuine Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe

OK

Start FSX to generate the error.

You might go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer, and look around to see what you can find out about that error.

When you don't find much, do a repair from the FSX DVD. Not a reinstall but a repair.

If that doesn't work, you may need to uninstall of FSX. Besure to delete the FSX folder in the Application Data folder. If you have alot of addon planes, you may want to save the SimObjects folder in the Appliction Data folder, and add it back when you are all done.

I would run a registry cleaner(Google , and download "CCleaner").

Then reinstall FSX.

Hope it doesn't come to all that.

Bob

Have you been fooling around with effects????
If you make an extra effect and did something wrong, that is what happens!!
Check your new effects entry or delete it.
No need to reinstall or whatever.

Hi,

It is typically an error message that you get when you have been working with effects.
I suppose you have been working on an effect file and somewhere in this effect file, where you have two entries, the right one should be higher than the left one.
Example:
Z Particle Velocity=-2.00, 2.00
If you change this to
Z Particle Velocity=2.00, -2.00
You get this mistake.
So limit your search to something of the kind.

hah, I posted this error quite a while back and no one replied...I see how you all are!!!!! lol

Oddly enough, I have never messed with effect and it just started one day. Doesn't do anything, and FS starts fine when you hit enter but just annoying. I will look at the files though...maybe something else did something.

But, all non relevant at the moment, as my FS doesn't work to even get to this point now... :( (see other post I made)

Ok.. I have fixed the problem. I learned, a long time ago when I was honestly having to re-install FSX (repair, which is just a re-install...as it destroys your updates and changes) about once a week (sometimes 3 or 4 times a week) to have a full working backup on my backup drive.

So, I just did a copy all of the FSX folder. (never had to mess with the cfg folder on the C drive....it's never had a problem) Since I make sure this backup folder is up to date with all new planes and files once a week, I never have much work to do if I need a fix.

This fixed the problem... I have no clue why. The kicker is, a folder compare showed there were NO differences in any part of the FSX folder or sub-folders. I just LOVE MS Windows. NOT!!!!!!!

So, now that this is fixed, I will try and find the problem within my fx folder causing the odd error at startup, just like the other person posted with the -....is less than -.....

I do believe, and will find out when I get home from baseball camp, that it started when I installed the waterfall fx for Hawaii from FSGenesis. I'll post if that's the problem....I am late to baseball....doh!!!!

Hi Greg,

Well, you hit a ball, didn't you? I do not know what kind of sentence they give you for that in the US.
But I am just stupid I guess, because FSX says I am wrong here too (see attachment).

heh, well, I will say, camp as in prison was my first thought, then I decided that was stupid since we don't call a jail or prison a camp. Well, some may, but not me.... but, and forgive me please, now I see you are from somewhere NOT in the USA (I guess), and it makes sense.. LOL oops!

That error is getting annoying for me as well. luckily, it doesn't affect anything.

I did look in my FX folder, and I found a backup of an fx that has the 2 z values reversed...but in the active version of that fx, it was NOT reversed. So I am at a loss.

I have opened every single effect and checked all Z values...they are all either 0,0 or in correct higher/lower values. My last resort is to take them all out and put back 1/2 at a time to find the problem. Hate the thought of that many restarts of FS.

My other startup problem, mentioned above, is back. I have had to copy over that backup FS folder 4 times now. What really sucks is what MAY be the culprit...

Luckily, the author of the software is always here and can check my files to find out why if I find that it is the only possible culprit...but so far, it looks like it has to be.. It's the ONLY thing I use and changes a file when the problem occurs.

Thank you Bob, I was already wondering whether my odd sense of humor is only understood by my own (dirty) old mind.
The only thing I can come up with, Greg, in order to find the culprit, is to cut and paste in your backup, all effects that are later than the original ones (from the point of view of when they last have been modified) and go from there. It is not only the Z values, it can be anything! ( and I deliberately introduced this error at startup to show you).
And the effect error is definitely not the cause of your other startup problem.
PS (Post scrotum): No, I am not from the USA otherwise I would not never have made a joke involving baseball, but my b.i.l. who is, taught me how to make puns (or is that British English?).
I guess I still have to make a study of what emoticons one should use in certain cases in order to avoid misunderstandings.
Hope you find the solution and do not apologize for nothing, I did not take offence and I sincerely hope they treat you well in your baseball camp.
