• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Suggestions for Background image

I'm working on the Des Moines International Airport. So far I have finished the basic design of the taxiways, and runways, but now I need to move on to the more detailed stuff. Like the taxi lines, and the runway marks. I'm trying to find how to get a high resolution image that I'll be able to see the markings on.

If you have any suggestions, I'd be very grateful.

Even with really high definition imagery you just can't see some of the markings. Stuff like "EQUIPMENT CLEARANCE" markings are just too small to make out. What I recommend and refer to is the airport standards. You should check with your airport regulator who should publish standards on what line markings should be. I do this for all my Australian airports. Some people don't and it bugs the crap out of me.

Once you know what you should expect to see it can be a heck of a lot easier to make an educated guess on what that smudge on the imagery is meant to say.

Do a google search for "usa standards for airport markings". A few FAA pdfs come up in the first results.

Looking at the Google Earth imagery I think there are some double yellow line markings which on GE kind of look like a blurred single line. If you know what the standards say you can determine if they are in fact double yellows. The standards will also spell out exactly how wide those lines should be and what the gap between them should be.
