• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Switches not animating in FSX

So..

I was having issues assigning Animations and Attach Point Mouse Rects to switches..

At first they were just assigned wrong (a couple of them) and now many are suddenly no longer animating. I have rechecked my XML parts code, other parts are animating, so its not a fouled up code. I have reset the scale. I have prayed. I have done everything I know to do and these (insert bad word here) things are STILL not animating.

Any thoughts by the gurus?

Oh, how I love to make planes in FSX format.. oh.. oh oh ... :tapedshut

This is turning out to be a totally radical, hilarious, cruel joke, lol..

So, I had assigned the switches with Animation Manager, 2 times in a row with animation points at zero through 100. I did this twice.. in a row...

I compile a model. I install it in FSX. The switches do not work.

Depression.. or stress.. graying of eyebrows..

I compile another model (just in case, wierd feeling, desperation). Boot up FSX. Same thing....

The next time I opened up FSX, and opened the parts in Animation Manager, it showed that none had animation assignments.. None. So Animation Manager isnt working half the time.

This makes sense, because lately it takes 5 to 12 tries of opening up Gmax to get the FSX Tools tab to show up. I open, reopen, reopen Gmax over and over to get the Tools tab, lololol..

Almost time to call it a day and put on Monty Python and diffuse this stress...

lolol...

Yes...

Imagine going from Gmax-->FS2004 to Gmax-->FSDS--->FSX

What ever the easiest path is... Hey.. Im there.

I am having erotic daydreams of making simple planes for X-Plane. No more 5 textures per material, animation managers, attach points, GUID's, GUID's, and GUID's.. No more dual forms of XML code. Just making planes....

Bill! You do NOT have to reload GMax over and over just to "get the FSX Tools tab to show up!"

I posted about this at FFDS a very long time ago... :D

All you need to do is start GMax. If the FS Tools don't show up, click on MAXScript/Run Script and select FSToolsMenu.ms from the browser window.

You may have to do this more than once before the FSToolsMenu.ms will actually load FS Tools, but it sure beats restarting GMax over and over!

I know you said you have reset the scale but have you reset the scale on everything in that heirarchy AND everything that is in the sight line (ie behind) even if you can't actually see it (exterior parts) and that heirarchy too?

I have been caught out by that before now
