• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Taxiway Lights

Not sure what you mean. Almost every default airport has taxi lights (though many are mis-positioned). There are several ways of creating them in ADE - either when modifying a stock airport or creating a new one.

You have to go to the taxiway path properties and set either edge lights or centerline lights (or both) to “on”

Buggy stuff...the taxi lights disappear but not in all cases. I haven't found out when or where but here is a work around - put an apron along the taxiway and disable "draw on surface" which makes the apron invisible but also you'll find the tax lights back in place. keep the apron as close as possible to the outer edge of the taxiway path. It seems that the lights dispappear in the ground without an apron but the apron give them a ground. That's what I do when a taxiway doesn't show line lights left and/or right.

How did you create the new taxiway, I am having trouble finding that in the pull downs?

click on the taxiway icon.

When you create a new taxiway there are no lights at night.
Taxiway lights added as taxiway edge lighting do not light up at night, so turn them all off. Select a TaxiwayPath, right click and select all taxiway paths. In the Properties Editor, uncheck left edge lighted and right edge lighted check boxes.

Use LightRow. Go to the Objects panel and in the Object type dropdown, select LightRow. Now you can add the blue taxiway lights one at a time, or many at a time with the One-click placing.
Unfortunately, the lights are on all the time even during daylight hours. Some scenery developers have complained about the lights being to bright at night and visible from long distances from the airport.

Another option is to use a 3D modeling program - I used Blender - and make a 3d model of a taxi light with a light emitting material. The light can be exported using the Blender addon blendertomsfs. I found this method was not all that satisfactory either. The lights were not visible beyond about one and a half miles from the airport. While taxing, far distant lights would suddenly pop onto existence.

Another handy object is LightSupport. Go to the Objects panel and in the Object type dropdown, select LightSupport. Use LightSupport to create exclusion areas. The area is add like adding an apron. I have used LightSupport to eliminate runway edge lights that appear in taxiways and other types of lights that are placed in undesirable spots.

yep super annoying - edge lights that have emissives made custom have to be massive to stay lit during night.
