• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v2 Taxiway, Winter Ice, Airplane "floats"

This is no doubt something I'm doing wrong, not ADE. I am trying to put a taxiway onto a FROZEN lake. I have the taxi link set up as "water" ... which I need for summer operations at the lake. But in the winter, the plane "floats" in the ice (like it is water). Using Winter, with the plane "floating" on the ice, if you slew left or right (off the taxiway), the plane jumps and rides on the ice surface. (so this isn't a terrain cfg problem). Is there a way to make the surface solid in winter and water in summer?

I've attached the bgl I'm using. I just need to know if ADE handles that problem, and if it does, what have I done wrong? If it doesn't handle it, I can make a seasonal bgls, turning one off on the proper season.

Thank you
Doug

Taxiways are not seasonal.

Is this an AI aircraft? If not, you don't need a taxiway, just a start point.

If it is for AI, you need a concrete taxiway and the AI floatplane needs wheels.

Thank you George. No this is to get a "starting point" at a dock, then go to the runway (NOT AI). If you don't link it, then you have an orphan start and it doesn't show up in the options when you are selecting where to start, at least for me. I think I've found a work-around. At RTMM, we are using a season switcher, so I can have a different bgl for a different season. I've created one for winter that uses "ice", the spring summer and fall use water. When the switcher changes the seasons, it picks up the correct "type" of taxiway. Crude, but it does work.

Update: There's an easier way ... you just set the taxiway width to ZERO and it works perfectly, summer or winter. (A friend just emailed me on it, thought I'd pass it along here). This problem doesn't seem to affect the runways, just the taxiway.
