• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum

P3D v4 Terrain engine

Hello all,

I just compiled a batch of North America source data using the P3D4.1 resample.exe. All went as expected and works great, of course, in P3D4.1, though it's difficult to see any difference between P3D3 and P3D4 resample output.

Decided to install to FSX-SE to see what happened. Nothing unusual, loaded and displayed fine.

Has anyone discovered any significant differences, or even insignificant differences between FSX/P3D3 terrain and P3D4 terrain engines?

Thanks

Hi Justin:

IIUC, you were able to display a terrain mesh BGL compiled using the P3Dv4.1 SDK ...in FSX_SE ?

Was Bathymetric data included in any data sets tested, and if so, does it display in FSX_SE where a coastal Hydro poly is excluded ?

Interesting results ! :)

Gary,

No bathymetric data yet in the output. But maybe I'll whip up a bathymetry bgl and see what happens to that in FSX-SE. My best guess, choke, unless the code was simply dormant in FSX. But yes, terrestrial terrain mesh elevation output seems to be interchangeable between FSX and P3D4.
