• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Terrain Loading Dialog

Hi,

when ever one changes too much it appears Prepar3D starts to reload the terrain or what ever it actually reloads/loads. It says "Loading terrain data...".
I'm trying to figure out what causes the reload so I can maybe prevent it.

E.g. if one changes the daytime too much it will lead in to reloading / loading something but if I use the time preview function it can change the time and switch from day to night without loading anything. And since it looks to me exactly the same as without preview I think it might be possible to change time without reload.

So does anybody have a better view on this and can tell me what triggers the loading dialog?

Thanks

Martin

When you change the time, it needs to recalculate a lot of variables, as well as load a lot of new imagery and effects. This is why it is loading. The preview probably only does this on a limited basis which is why it doesnt have to load it the same way. think of it like a bird house. You can build a birdhouse in an hour. This is like your preview. Now take the birdhouse and blow it up to be inhabitable by humans. Now it will take a few months to build it. This is like the loading.

I am not 100% sure on it but it is a logical explanation as to why it does. To my knowledge there is no way around it.

Ok than a different approach. I noticed that even if the loading dialog is up the simulation is sometimes not stopped or paused. And since the Dialog is a separate window I'm thinking about moving that window out of sight. That could work.

So I was able to hide the dialog but of course that does not prevent the loading time. Well but it looks better at least the times when the dialog is really not necessary.

Code:
...

    BOOL CALLBACK EnumWindowsProc(HWND hwnd, LPARAM lParam)
    {
        char buffer[80];
        GetWindowText(hwnd,buffer,sizeof(buffer));
        string title = buffer;

        if(title == "SubMenuDialog")
        {
            ShowWindow(hwnd, SW_HIDE);
        }

        return true;
    }

...

EnumWindows(EnumWindowsProc, NULL);
