• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Terrain polygons issue

Hello,

I try to update the default RJBB - Osaka Kansai airport, because it has a new runway and new terminal.

Here is the FSX default scenery :

So, I tried to create 2 polygons: 1 for exclude actual background of the north island and 1 to create the real shape of the north island

But not work

here the result in FSX :

Airport keep the FSX original shape.

I tried to change polygons properties but nothing work. Impossible to get my green polygon shape.

I think that I haven't understood something with terrain polygons.

Can you help me ?

I tried many solutions, but nothing work.

If I exclude all with the yellow polygon, and set the green poygon as "Land", I lose water around airport.

I don't find the solution to active my green polygon with its new true shape, as real airport..

No idea ?

I get the right shape of my green polygon (see in the red circle of the picture below) when I use an exclude "everything" polygon, but I lost 2 tiles and even if I add a third polygon "Water", the 2 tiles stay without water...

You cannot add land over water

You exclude the specific type water around the airport then add back the water while drawing a new shape of the land.

great, that's work !

First test :

I had to increase polygon size

and now :

But it remain a small problem fopr tomorrow :
Old airport grey texture is always visible.
I assume that I must add a exclude specific, but how find this name name...

shore lines and bridge to work....

Thank you very much jim !

The grey texture is Microsoft s attempt to make parking lots at a lot of airports. It is the land class cement which is classified as per the SDK as a Park. You can exclude it several different ways.

In this picture I added 3 small bounding boxes overlaid on the land class toward the top, bottom and out on the left point using Exclude Specific -- Cement. The reason for 3 boxes, there are three sections that must be excluded.

In the following picture you can use the actual shape geometry method which requires covering the entire cement with the exclude.

The following post has a small tutorial that may help when working with Land class

Hello Jim,

Thank you very much for your help.

I go to read your link at once.

Jim, thank you very much. All works fine now and project can progress !

I begin new shorelines. It seems that the waves direction comes from the direction used to draw the line. For exemple, If i draw to the right, waves are on the ground. If I draw to the left, waves are on the sea.

Now, I think that all is clear for me.

Thanks

Francois

Draw the shore line clockwise (left to right) and waves will come from the ocean.

All shore lines are drawn clockwise regardless if it is ocean (waves) so the color of the line matches the water/land.

After many tests, my conclusion is that waves are always on the right (clockwise) of your draw direction.

RJBB is now complete :

Thank you very much Jim.
