• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Texture Load Time

Hi There.

I have made a photoreal scenery for Vagar Airport with photoreal buildings and objects.

All show up okay in FS9, but there is one thing I would like to know.
Is it not possible for the texture to load faster once in FS9?

I think it takes about 3 to 4 sec for the texture to show up.

All the textures are small in size, the smallest being 10.7 KB
and the largest being 680 KB

But allmost all the textures are 170 KB in size and a total of 558 texture files.
Is there any way to make it load faster?

3 to 4 sec for the textures to load is not to much, but it would be realy good if I could make them load in 1-2 sec.
I know photoreal textures take some time to load, but if possible, than it would be great.

I have scaled them in size 512x512 which is recomended in FSDS 3.0 and saved the textures in a smal file size 170 KB where it was possible.
Is it possible to make several texture folders where each building loading from a different texture folder, and will that help the loading time?

Any help is very much welcome. :)

Cheers

Simon

Hi Simon,

I guess it is more the amount of textures, than the actual texture size that determines the loading time. So I think the best way to increate the loading time is to use less textures and maybe combine some smaller textures into a bigger one. Of course you should not combine textures of buildings that are very far apart (that will keep them longer in memory than needed), but doing it for buildings that are next to each other might help.

On the other hand this would mean that you have to map some textures again, so that it not really a fun thing to do when you are almost done :).

Hi

Hi Arno.

Yea you are right. It will take me to long. I will however do it for a nother project in the future.

The textures for the scenery in FSX however loads instantly.
I gues it is because of the FSX game engine, that it is possible to load faster than in FS9.

Thank you for your reply. :)
