• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Texture problem

I created an object in FSDS, and textured it. All the textures showed up fine in FSDS, but in FSX only part of them showed up, and the ones that did were definitely not what were in FSDS. Any help. I am relatively new to scenery design, so I am learning about textures. What type of textures, and and sizes (512x512, 1024x1024) etc., work best in FSX? What format is best? DDS? BMP? uhgg, so many questions.

thanks for the help guys!

A few screen shots of the problem will help us a lot.

If you told FSDS that you are going to include night textures make sure that you added them to the correct folder.

A missing texture will cause all sorts of problems.

Asking what format is best will likely start a war..lol but I like DXT1 with mipmaps unless you need an alpha channel then I use DXT3

Okay, I was able to finally design another object in FSDS, and texture it properly. I think my problem was I was using improper texture files formats. Does FSX display 8 bit textures only? And how do I create a dxt1 file?

You can use imagetool.exe you can find it here ..yours might be on C drive.

F:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Terrain SDK

or DXTBmp which you will find here
