• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Texture Processing Time

Am I doing something wrong, or is it just a very slow process to add the textures to the proper slots in MCX, I am working on an admittedly large model but its been over 8 hours and I am still adding the proper textures in the proper slots, its like every time I add the texture in to the slot then the program has to reprocess all the textures every time. is there a way to speed this process up or am I doing it the wrong way, to begin with? Thanks

It sounds like your workflow may be unnecessarily complex. Can you describe the exact steps you are taking?

Most times a model is imported into MCX it should already have textures applied to it. Then you make any minor (or wholesale) modifications to the textures already present. If you are manually adding all your textures to your model within MCX then it sounds like your workflow is reversed. They should have already been applied in your modelling program of choice.

when im finished in substance painter I apply the textures in blender using nodes, my problem is I don't know how to export the obj file in such a way as to get MCX to find the textures.

If your textures are already applied and mapped in Blender then you should be good to go.

In using Blender 2.79 I usually export as a Wavefront OBJ and then convert to MDL using MCX.
However for some reason, the material (.MTL) file written with the OBJ does not work nicely with MCX and the textures aren't located. So to overcome this I export from Blender twice: once with the path mode set to COPY. Then a 2nd time with the path mode set to STRIP.
The first export moves all your textures to a common location next to the OBJ, with an "incorrect" .MTL file.
The second export ignores all textures, but writes a correct .MTL file with references to textures wherever the OBJ is located.

When you open the OBJ in MCX the textures should now all load automatically.

Note: I am not sure if the method I describe is affected by the use of Nodes and PBR.

Hi,

Making changes in the material editor should not take very long. It is right that after each material update the preview is refreshed and for very complex models that might take 10 seconds or so. But in general it should happen very fast. Hours, I can't imagine. How complex is your model (amount of polygons and materials)?

Sorry Arno, when I downloaded the latest MCX version I forgot to extract it to my other hard drive, It was extracted to my secondary hard drive wich did not have enough room to run the program efficiently. so that was my fault.
