• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Textureproblem for extended ....TIP !

Hi all.

When you make a texture for FSX Objects or for aircraft and other and you used directx 10.....then you must make the textures at DDS 5 Format with Alpha.
The extended Textures in BMP at DX 3 to 5 are for FS9 / FSX without directx 10, The fs9 used directx 9 !

When you imported an Aircraft from FS9 to FSX, and you have run directx 10, then you see a white Aircraft modell and Obejcts.
Switch to directx 9 and the fsx shows the textures.

Okay.....let us make our new Objects and Aircraft with dds DX 5 Textures and we can used directx 10.:D

When i have run fsx with vers. 9 then the frames rate less about between 10 and 20. With Version 10 runs the fsx at my machine abouve 50 Frames when all FSX settings to 100 %.

Thats at my machine the fact.

Regards
ULI:p;)

PS.
The FSX flickering comes to, from directx 10 with extended DX 3-5 Textures !
Switch to directx 9 at FSX and all shows normal without flickering.

Moin Uli,

thanks for the tip. What about DXT1 textures? Are they no-nos too?

Uli - thank you for the tip. It will be of great help to some of us that do not use dx10, but still develop for FS-X.

Thanks very much, ULI, for the tip about using DDS 5 and an alpha channel. I've seen conflicting information about bits, though. How many bits for a file to work well with DirectX 10? What tools are best to use for .dds file creation and for format conversions?

My experience with flickering has been the opposite of yours. For example, near a chain link fence in FSX, with "Preview DirectX 10" mode disabled, the links of the fence flicker as if they are electrified. With "Preview DirectX 10" mode enabled, the links of the fence are stable.
