• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Texturing tips and night textures?

Hello!

I've just started a thread in the Showroom-forum with my project ESGL.
It goes quite well so far, but I have some questions!

1. Any good tips on how to make nice dirt on walls etc? See pictre:

This is my model:

It's not that important as no one will see this side of the hangar, but still.

2. Create good night textures using spotligts in Blender?
Is this possible and if it is, how complicated is it? I mean, I could do it i PS, but it would be nice if it was made in Blender. Then the light would be more realistic and line up well over edges and so on.

Thank you! :)

I'm gonna let someone else take a shot at the first question, since I pressume some people might have better techniques for that in PS or Gimp then I have and I'm also quite interested in knowing that. For the light however the following!

I use cycles Render mode for this... just a habbit I have.
So I've got the wall unwrapped on a texture I called "untitled" (how inspired) and I've added two spotlights.

For cycles render we need to make sure we've a an image texture node, doesn't need to be connected but still... (just go to the node editor, pres Shift + A and search for image texture. Within the appearing window you set "untitled")

And then I bake shadow. I save the result and get back to Blender Render mode.

There I set the resulting bake as a second texture with color disabled and emiting enable (this makes it an emision texture).
Now let's see the result.

night time...

Hope this helps you! Sorry for the gainy textures, I baked it quickly so I've set my samples to a low amount. If you were to follow this you want to set your samples up, which avoids grainy textures ;)
