• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

Hello all, I have been using FSX Planner since.. well I can remember. I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE to connect to the simconnect tool within FSX planner. I have read forum after forum, tread after thread. All great stuff, but im a little to embarassed to say, not simple enough instructions for me. I have been known to be very computer literate and have a touch of programmer in me.. so it frustrates me when I cannot make this thing connect using the many sets of instuctions I have read!

Can someone explain to me and maybe others who are having the same problem, how to make this thing work. Talk to me like im a 2 year old please.

Heres what I need to know and what im doing.

What Im Doing: Starting FSX.. its sitting at the "Free Flight" screen. Starting FSX Planner (latest release), opening desired airport, clicking "FSX Connection Status" button.. click connect using local connection.. I get "No open SimConnect ports were found.... Please make sure FSX is running."

What I Need to Know: Apparently FSX is running.. Im looking at the airplane spinning around in the Free Flight screen. Should I be looking at another screen in FSX? If so, this point has never been mentioned. It always says "Make sure FSX is running," and it is.

What I Need to Know, part B:I would like someone to explain to me how they got this tool to work the VERY FIRST TIME. From A-Z, dont skip any steps, if i have to install other programs please include the links in the same thread, if you have screen shots, please include them, tell me what screens I should be on, what color the pages are, what the temperature was outside when you did it, etc :).. I need everything needed to get this seemingly small but very valuable tool to work.

I am getting increasingly more frustrated every time i try to do this and dont get it to work. Id love to see this in action. Im sure its great!

For info purposes.. Im running a new Dell XPS420.. using Vista Home Premium... FSX Deluxe... FSX Planner release 28.

If someone could answer this thread, im sure this will be a thread that will be referenced to forever more!

It should work sitting at the opening dialog screen, but just to make sure, try clicking the Fly Now button and actually be flying then try to connect again (if you normally fly full screen, you will probably want to ALT-Enter into windowed mode).

Assuming you are running the SimConnect client on the same machine as FSX, you shouldn't need to do anything as SimConnect should get installed when FSX is installed. One thing that can lead to problems is if you don't have .Net Version 2.0 installed when you install FSX, then the installer won't install the SimConnect managed wrapper client lib as part of the SimConnect install.

You only have to do something "special" if you want to run clients on a second computer, then you need to configure the SimConnect.XML file to open some global ports, install SimConnect on the other machine(s), etc.
 
Weren't there issues with SimConnect and over-enthusiastic firewalls blocking TCP/IP traffic (even within the same PC)? Could that be the problem?

That's my question ... I forget where I read it ... in a readme document with FSX if I recall ...

It said that MP was not capable of working if you're accessing the internet through a Linksys router. The Linksys comes with a hardware firewall.

I happen to have a Linksys router between me and my ISP modem. Oddly it lets the weather updater get it's information, but I can not connect to play multiplayer.

FSXPlanner uses a java Simconnect implementation...


From the ReadMe file with FSXPlanner ( version 26b ):

-The SimConnect.xml file must be placed in the C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX folder for FSX Planner to access FSX. This is needed for both local or remote connections. The ip address and port number used in FSX Planner must match the ones specified in the xml file. If a SimConnect.xml file already exists in the folder, then make sure it contains the appropriate information.

-To connect to FSX select SimConnect -> FSX Connection Status. Then make sure the ip address and port number are set properly to match those in your SimConnect.xml file. Then click connect. If all goes well FSX Planner should connect instantly to FSX.


Make sure you read the port number in the XML file, as it may be different than the default number in FSXPlanner ( my XML file number was 48447, while FSPlanner defaulted to 48448 ).

If this is the only way to get simconnect to work with java, it sure is difficult. TCalcX uses C# and connects with a click, and no messing with hidden files or odd file locations. I've even got a Delphi version of TCalcX that requies no odd things, and a C++ written in Borland C++.... :eek:

None of the suggestions work. I give up. I do not believe that anyone has has as much trouble as I.

I have disabled my firewall, i have un installed and reinstalled fsx deluxe, i have downloaded the "alternate" .xml file on the FSXP page as suggested. I have tried local connection, i have tried local connection and entered the port number in the .xml file, i have had FSX open to main screen, i have had it open to a flight screen. I DO NOT know what else to do, i have read post after post on suggestions.. i have tried them all, at least the ones I can understand (remember my request to talk to me like a 2 year old?).

Here is a different question....
the simconnect files should be in the "Documents and Settings...." yada yada folder?? That folder does not exist on Vista, so I can only assume since no one has mentioned it like i asked that i should go to, in my case c:\DJ Tiger\AppData... and this is where I get confused. There are 3 folders in the AppData folder: Local; LocalLow; Roaming, in which 2 of them have a Microsoft\FSX folder (Local and Roaming). Which one of these should I be concerned with. It probably doesnt matter as I placed the simconnect.xml file in both.. and it still wont connect.

Sorry for my frustrated tone.. but im frustrated!

What is the possibility someone on this forum lives in chicago and can SHOW me how to do this.

Since two days now I have tried to connect to FSX and FSX_planner via a remote connection.
I have tried about everything I can think of.
