• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Okay guys, as the title shows, this is about FS stuff, not the movie. (lol I have no planning in watching it!!!) Anyways, it's the X file that is used in modelling. My question ever since my years in FS designing is do you get the X file from 3ds max or gmax? I mean when you export the object, do you have an option in 3ds max to keep the x file? Is it the same way in gmax? Or do you have to beat the *thing* out of them to give the file to you? I'm doing good in my design, I just wanted to know how to get that file out to my folders.:ziplip:

Yes

Maybe - since you don't specify whether you're modelling for FS2004 or FS-X,

FS2004 - it depends on what exporter you use to output your x file.

FS-X: yes - (presuming you've installed the FS-X SDK)

Is it the same way in gmax?

FS2004 - Using middleman you can "capture" the x file.

FS-X - the SDK is set up that you can't capture the "intermediate" x file - it gets sent to and processed direectly.

Or do you have to beat the *thing* out of them to give the file to you? I'm doing good in my design, I just wanted to know how to get that file out to my folders.:ziplip:

Hi,

As Felix says. With the FS2004 gamepack you need MDL Commander to capture the X file in GMax. With the FSX gamepack there is no way to keep the X file in GMax and in 3DS you export it as a X file anyway (no need to capture it in a special way, it is the output that you have to put through XtoMDL anyway).
