• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Thought I'd try something...

So I thought I'd see what it was like to do autogen... went to load up the Annotator... in the Configuration Editor I went to open default.xml in the Autogen folder... and yeah... what was I thinking??

"Failed to open H:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Autogen\default.xml:

AceXML Parser Error: 'AUTOGEN' - line 2, col 0. HRESULT= 0x83600fb7"

Really? LOL Teach me to check out new things :D

To my knowledge there's no need to open default.xml in the configuration editor, use it to open roofdescriptions.spb, autogendescriptions.spb instead as those are the definitions for vegetation and normal autogen buildings. It says in the SDK you need to put a copy of default.xml in the Environment Kit\Autogen SDK folder which I've done. That's where the listing for library objects comes from and the annotator usually just picks those up when you run it without need to load default.xml into anything manually. I can remove default.xml from the Environment Kit\Autogen SDK folder and it just says "MSXML Error" where the available library objects would normally be listed, other than that the annotator continues to work fine for veg rectangles and agn buildings.

Ok... so I open the .spb file and it populates the Model Entries and Groupings windows... I go into the groupings and find a vegetation I want to use... say veg_tb_Elm1_10m... I click on that... then I select Vegetation in the Control window... click "Set Guid" and nada... nothing.

Clearly I'm not grasping how to use this software at all.

I think veg_tb_Elm1_10m would be a model entry rather than a grouping, rather than expand the grouping out to individual trees just select the grouping itself, i.e. tc_elm_city and then set the GUID. It's intended to give you some randomness where certain models are weighted to appear more frequently, etc.

Ah... thank you. So I can annotate... guess I'll have to figure out what's next. :D

Ok... I created an .agn file... it's in the same folder as the scenery I annotated... I go into the sim... nada. Clearly I have missed something. Anyone wanna smack me across the back of the head and point out my mistake(s)? :)

If it helps, what I'm trying to do is give a MegaSceneryEarth area some autogen trees because they're very important around this specific airport.

Generally the .agn files go in the accompanying texture folder but I have seen the annotator place them in the scenery folder in the absence of a texture folder. As I recall they work in either location but you might try moving them to a texture folder to see what happens. What tree types did you use? Did you use veg polygons or rectangles?

Hi,

I am not familiar with SBX so I do not know what SBX can do or not and whether the spb file is enough to show autogen but normally you need a photoreal underground to be able to have the autogen show up (and make sure you do not have any excludes either).

I don't recall the trees... they were maple or elm or something like that... and I used the polygon instead of the veg rectangle.

I think the Megascenery Earth BGL files have exclusions to prevent autogen and there's no way to get around it. That's what I am guessing is going on.
