• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Well my exploration of FS is now nearing 2 months…
I’m not sure what is going on with Microsoft, and there’s a strange restrained vibe out there on the web… I call it “nice guys with gags”.
Its like they want to say, Yeah, lets… but cant.

I get vibrations ;) probably that stuff I'm smoking ;)

So hey, I don’t work for the little guy with a big wallet, so I’ll say it…

Billy Boy, unless you own the company that’s buying FS, you’ve just made the biggest mistake of your life, whatever they paid you, wasn’t enough.

As I said, just a vibration… this awesome product just needs someone that can think outside the box.

My two cents...

I think it'd be great if from the ACES Studio ashes rose a phoenix with the eye-candy and "ease" of third-party creation/integration as MSFS and the realism of flight dynamics as X-Plane... I'd spend a few pennies on that!!

Yes!

Its just too strange for words, I’m beginning to feel like I’ve landed on an alien planet full of dead people.
I look at the online sites, they lukewarm, but here I am rushing out and buying more hard-drive space because I can’t get enough of FS.

The posts here and everywhere are moving slowly, but I’m experiencing a psychedelic cerebral overload!

I fly over the Vancouver Alaskan area and start dreaming about living there, I dream about a real Beechcraft D18 on floats, and I can do that for hours and hours, its an imagination high.

I was playing on line with a Dutch guy, we started doing circuits, practicing ILS landings and talked about global warming, I think I now know more about Holland than if I went there as a tourist, and same thing the other day with a Swedish pilot.

There is something chronically wrong with the FS business model.
Its like Bill Gates said, the world is having too much fun with our product, turn it off!

Well, I guess we have to walk this strange path alone…
I’m so busy at it, now using every spare second I have to release this caged imagination that I think I can now read hex without a hex editor ;)

Why are we so alone! This is not normal… FS is awesome! I can’t understand it!

Bill Gates had absolutely nothing whatever to do with FS development being shut down...

Like Elvis, he'd long before left the building. Cast blame on Bill's annointed successor where it belongs: Steve Ballmer!

Steve Ballmer going crazy

Have more or less the same feelings about FS as CrashtestDummy (although looking at his nickname, he must be a lunatic :D).
However, the large majority of people have not heard of MSFS and hardly know how to even install it.
So it has more and more become a game for those same lunatics that invent such crazy nicknames :D.
Seriously now, as said earlier, through FS I learned more indeed about other parts of the world, made E-mail friends in places never visited, learned more about many computer related things, etc.
And I indeed concur regarding Bill Gates' leaving: in the end it will not be a good thing for Microsoft as at least he gave us the impression that not all he did was for money alone, contrary to his successors.

Most of the guys I work with are majorly into sports or "masculine" hobbies (hunting, fishing... etc...). When they ask what I do for fun I tell them of my passion for FS and developing... They look at me with glazed over eyes like deer staring into the headlights of an oncoming car!! It's pretty amusing but at the same time it's tiring to explain that FS is far more than a "game" over and over and over and over... but they still have no idea what it is.

I've thought of "spreading my wings" with a more diverse group in multiplayer but I can never find the time to truly get more invovled beyond what I already do. It would be fun and quite an experience to fly with people from other parts of the World... just like when we help one another here. It's a great way to learn about other parts of the world from people who actually live there!!

I don't think FS will ever truly "die" because there are too many of us with a passion for it!

Ha ha… just say to the jocks, “Hey guys, flew to Vancouver this weekend, in my Mustang, and I hit some bad turbulence, crashed into a mountain, but I lived”, then spit on the floor and walk away ;)
Funny that, I see FS as very much a jock thing ;)

I think the problem with FS, is that it’s too good… I smell an attempt at some sort of market segmentation by General Balmy, perhaps he thinks a 600 million dollar military flight simulator, is better bet than Joe Soap at home.
I don’t believe the official story line… “MS dumped it”… they dumped us maybe, but FS will live on under another brand… I think.

If you develop something, as I have already, and go online with it, “they” come swarming to have a look, not the kind of behavior you would expect on a discarded product.

FS has huge inertia, and I think it’s very much alive, it’s the business end of FS that’s causing the problems… and “they” not telling us what that is exactly… I think.

I think its unwise for a commercial scenery developer to give up on 2004 just yet, there seems to be two markets developing out there 2004ers and FSXers… an indication of General Balmy’s market segmentation, I believe…

No one in their right minds would dump this product… the official story line is @#$%… I think.

FS, as we know it, is gone. They studio is gone as is the people, barring Tim who's supporting the commercial ESP customers like Lockheed-Martin. Yes, FS is a fantastic product with limitless potential, but bean-counters simply weigh up costs against profits and it's plain the sums didn't favour continued development.

Flight1 gaining the rights to sell ESP is just like MS continueing to press FS discs. It just means it's being sold, not developed. LM are in the only position to continue development, and they'll do so to their own internal ends only.

It's incredibly sad that MS couldn't even keep things going to produce a last SP to fix the warts we're left to live with, many of which can be worked around but many that can't. It's a shame, but it's what we've got to deal with.

Thanks for filling in some gaps...
So those LM guys are sitting with General Balmy's FS source code... must be laughing their heads off ;)

Why would they be laughing? Lockheed-Martin purchased a license of the source code so they could continue to develop/deploy professional level sims for commercial/military use only.

Lockheed-Martin is specifically prohibited from using the source code for any other purpose.

Likewise, Flight1 Technologies purchased a limited distribution license so they could continue to develop and market their line of professional level sim solutions for commercial/military use only.

Flight1 Technologies is specifically prohibited from using their distribution license for any other purpose.

Neither of the above have any bearing or impact on flight simmers, period.

I have high hopes that Microsoft will come to their senses and re-awake the development of FlightSimulator/TrainSim.... heck, I'm going to call the core "World Sim" from which Flight Simulator, Train Simulator will rise!!

I hereby declare that the next Microsoft Flight Simulator version will be called FS-Phoenix!!

(Okay, so it's not too original, but it's tempting...)

And the ability to make all decent addon's henceforth, as well as compatibility with future "derivative" products like FSPlane for windows.
Its a huge advantage... what I would give to just see this monsters message pump ;) I spend hours playing Sherlock Holmes ;)

From the gist of this conversation, "no large firms have an interest in FS gamings future", its truly abandoned, so I imagine then that any tools developed for FS would now be welcomed by scenery and other developers, esp if it boosts the dwindling numbers out there.

No conflict of interest then... if I develop away and release tools for FS, this is a good thing... keep this thread, just in case I get it right :)

When I get it to beta, I'll let you know... Felix if I get my way, its going to be called Genie ;)

You seem to have some comprehension problem. Is English not your native language?

Let me try one more time to drive home the point:

Neither Flight1 Technologies nor Lockheed-Martin are allowed to use their license for entertainment purposes. Period. End of story.

L-M can only produce commercial (aka: very expensive) products for the professional and government markets.

Flight1 Technologies can only produce commercial (aka: not quite as expensive) products for the professional market.

Also, keep in mind that Flight1 Technologies is not the same as Flight1. Flight1 is the 'entertainment division' and Flight1 Technologies is the 'commercial/professional division'. ;)

Actually, to take a different opinion, I think he understands that ESP licensing is strictly commercial/military simulations, and that the entertainment sector is closed.

Now, if he wants to develop his own set of tools, given what is currently known, and expanded into "Genesis - Flight Simulation as its never been before", then, he might just have a thing going on... but he's not going to expect any help from Microsoft.

Nie werklik nie… but you make nice models ;)
I still think you hood winking me man, you pulling my other leg… ha ha

Warren Buffet probably sits on the boards of all these companies… so all the rules are made to be broken ;)

Notice how I’m moving up the ladder, soon going to be blaming Bush for the demise of FS… this yarn could have been a bigger fairy tail, they could have said Bin Laden did it… ha ha

No more FS, because of the terrorists :D

We’ll see :)

Well, nothing left to do now but make my longevity tools, which I’d probably do no matter what MS did. Love coding and this “game”.

This will give an idea of what I’m up to… beeeeeeg project, and will take me all of 2 months.

This is not a scenery SDK although that could well come into it later, it’s a dynamic SDK… so far…

I’ve ported the whole of FS to Google Earth…
This means you can watch a multiplayer session on GE.
All the players, all the navigation beacons, all the airports, all the runways, all the flight plans… you can place towers and control traffic in the English channel if you wanted to, you can jump in the cockpit and watch a pilot fly on GE etc etc...

Then I discovered some problems in this area, and decided to revamp the entire multiplayer protocol… which means one can now do things like plug traffic into FS.
Not only other games; but things like plugging the kids and moms GPS positions into FS.
Which means you can now fly over the kids in FS and watch them on GE.

This required delving into the depths of FS’s clandestine SDK, which I’m still very busy with, but winning, and I decided a SDK is needed, which naturally allows for things like flight recording and playback, jumping into the cockpit of another plane, writing your own external dynamic controllers, modifying camera angles, injecting vehicles… and whatever else floats my boat.

If I get it right, I think scenery developers will have to sharpen there pencils, there’s going to be a demand for all types of scenery, starting with the mom’s car, and in many places GE and FS differ, but in many cases, its perfect, land at an airport, flip over to GE and your plane is right down the middle of the runway… in a few cases, you parked in the side of mountain ;)

The SDK/TOOL will be free and can be driven from any language, even good old VB ;)
It’s a 2004 SDK, not that this couldn’t be done on FSX, but there much has been done via SimConnect already, and I don’t have X or the time, or any faith in the biz model.
2004 I can make work without the SDK ;)

What it means it that FS2004 has its own Dynamic SDK, its free and works with a central server for networking apps like multi monitors, GPS information, possibly vehicle delivery and scenery, and for the entrepreneur out there, that’s a comfortable business model, we have the code…

I’m notorious for making cool software, then developing an interest in another area and moving on, so an entrepreneur is needed to work the biz end, otherwise its just a tool I use to play on weekends with friends.

So... thats what I'm up to… will post here when its done.
Its just a different view on the pure flight theme… but I think it will make it a huge amount of fun, for everyone.

When I'm done, you be able to buy a hamburger in FS ;)

Having a little fun :)
