• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I'm new bear with me please.

I'm trying to use the tmf viewer to look at the elevations at my airport. I have the Dir and File number for the location
but don't know how to input them? When I open the viewer and click File I'm supposed to navigate to the file to open
instead of inputting the numbers. But I don't know where they are located?

You can use SbuilderX to find file number and directory number of any location. It's at the bottom of the screen.

Okay, I've installed SbuilderX. I open it, click "new project" and there's a blank screen. At the bottom there's the Lat and Lon coordinates plus the Dir and File numbers. As I move the cursor around all of those change. Rather than trying hopelessly to zero in on my project's numbers, I just clicked a random point. still a blank screen...no map?

Hello:

In SBuilderX, Background Imagery may be displayed via this work-flow:

(Substitute Google Satellite or Virtual Earth tile servers as desired)

1.) SBuilderX Menu > Edit >Tile Servers > ArcGisImagery > check: Use ArcGisImagery ? check-box > click: [OK]

2.) SBuilderX Menu > View > Show Background ...F1

NOTE: To go to the Geographic coordinates for ex: KEKN in scenery area sub-folder 0302:

3.) SBuilderX Menu > View > Go to Position… > over-strike Latitude: 38.8894444, Longitude: 79.8571389; click [OK] button

Zoom and Center view using Magnifying Glass Toolbar icon

Mouse Left-click to center the view on the cursor

This will help ID the FS Scenery\World 'folder number' sub-folder chain and file to be opened in SDK TMFViewer. ;)

In SDK TMFViewer:

Open the local area *DEM*.BGL file and 'Jump' to the Geographic coordinates for the airport (ex: KEKN) in scenery area sub-folder 0302:

Lat: 38.8894444

Lon: -79.8571389

Zoom: < + > and < - > keys

Mouse Left-click to center the view on the cursor

As the Mouse cursor is moved over the ground area on screen, the "Value" displayed on the SDK TMFViewer bottom status bar is Altitude of the local terrain mesh BGL in Meters.

PS: If you use SBuilderX to make a custom photo-real imagery BGL for the area in question, that can also be opened in SDK TMFViewer along with the DEM BGL.

Additionally, the local CVX vector BGL can be opened in SDK TMFViewer along with the DEM BGL

Hope this helps :)
