• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Traffic Vectors

I can't seem to figure out what is wrong here. I did this before and had no problem, but now, I'm lost. I created a road vector in ADE, I then imported (Append) the ERSI into SBX, I then change the property of the vector line to 'freeway traffic'. I then of course save my project file, then compile the BGL. Done that a hundred times before and had no problem, but now when I compile the BGL, there's no file created in the SBX/Tools/Work.... folder. What am I doing wrong? The compiler pops up a black box very quickly ,impossible to try and stop it before it goes away, I get no error report, it seems to compile, but no file gets created.

Also, is it possible to make traffic in both directions without having to draw two separate 'road vector' lines?

Never mind...I found the problem, I was using the wrong version of SBX, I was using SBX315 instead of SBX313, obviously 315 has a few bugs. It works now.

More likely SBuilderX 3.15 is going to be less of a challenge compared to SBuilderX 3.13.

If you Append ESRI Shapefiles (*.SHP), you must select those (edited ?) objects before SBuilderX 3.15 will see anything is intended to be compiled.

If you do not select those (edited ?) objects SBuilderX 3.15 will throw a (vague) error message stating there is 'nothing to compile'.

After SBuilderX 3.15 does compile CVX Vectors, their output data ESRI Shapefile (SHP/SHX/DBF/XML) and BGL are instead written into:

SBuilderX 3.15_install path\Tools\Shapes sub-folder

You must retrieve those files before any additional compiles into that sub-folder, or they may be over-written by the next compilation file set.

As for Freeway Traffic:

ACES never finished the CVX Vector feature set for (B) Bidirectional Traffic, so single lines must be duplicated / reversed

Creating roads and moving traffic

In Google Earth

  • Draw a polyline to represent the road.

If your road is going to have "one way" traffic then the traffic will travel from the start of the line (1st point you draw) to the end of the line (last point you draw)

  • Save the KML file

In FSX KML

  • Open the KML file
  • Tag the polyline with a road tag, eg Roads_Concrete_2_Lanes_Divided_Median
  • Copy the polyline and tag it polyline with the FreewayTraffic tag

Note: This will give you traffic traveling down the centre of the road. If you want two way traffic, you can duplicate the line twice in GE, then move each one to one side or the other (depending on which side of the road they drive on). One of then will need reversing otherwise both lanes will drive in the same direction.

Terrain Design for Flight Simulator X

This simple illustrated document explains the basic concepts in Flight Simulator X terrain, and how to change them using SBuilder for FS X. Make new water bodies, roads, vehicle traffic, airport flattens, remove autogen, add more detail - anybody can do it easily and quickly.
My most sincere apologies - I am unable, for lack of free time, to offer support of any kind. For questions or problems, please post in the Avsim scenery design forum.

Drawing freeway traffic

Moving vehicles can be added to roads, at the expense of performance,so you will probably want to reserve this feature to the immediate area of an airport and only in small quantities.

There are supposed to be 3 different types of road traffic lines:

- one-way going from (F) the starting point of the line;

- one-way going towards (T) the starting point of the line;

- two-way traffic (B).

At initial release of FS X, two-way traffic was not working. Hopefully, the FS X patch will fix this.

Also, traffic lines can display from 1 to 9 lanes of traffic.

To add vehicle traffic to your roads, simply draw a line directly overthe road and assign it as freeway traffic in its Properties:

Make sure to remember to select the number of lanes and the direction of the traffic.

You should try to draw traffic as nearly centered on the road as possible in order to get the vehicles to move on the road texture, otherwise they may appear on the ground next to the road.
