I just hit an irritating problem. I have successfully created several ground poly's with transparent elements using alpha channels for transparency. Suddenly, new objects made in this fashion quit appearing in FSX though the ones completed earlier still work just fine. I have tried dozens of tests with every possible combination of elements and it seems to come down to the use specific textures causing the issue.
I am using tiles made form Google Earth grabs and formatted in 1024x1024 DXT-5 BMP's with alpha channel transparencies. I have done this several times with no issue but suddenly, they won't show. I laid a different DXT-5 texture with alpha transparency over the same model (a 2660 foot by 2660 foot x .04 foot box) and they show fine. As soon as I use the terrain BMP. it stops showing again. When I apply the terrain texture to a 200x200x20 box, it works fine as well but when I apply it to the larger surface, it won't show.
Update... After another bunch of experimentation, it comes down to a matter of using Google Earth screenshots causing the problem. No matter what I do, as soon as I use a texture with a GE grab, it fails to show. I took a fresh GE .jpg and saved it as a .bmp, converted it to DXT5 for FSX and applied it to an object and no go. I then took a random photo and followed the same exact process and it shows!
I've spent two days trying to sort this and am about to lose it! Can someone help me before I end up on the evening news?
(Using FSDS 3.5.1)
Attached are a screenshot of the terrain BMP and the FSC file.
