Transparent Building Windows

Hi,

I am creating a terminal building with transparent windows using FSDS v3.0
The windows are simple polygons using a material with a diffuse colour of 128,128,128,128. Everything displays fine in FSDS. I create a library object and am using EZ-Scenery to place the object in FS2004. Again, everything looks fine when I select and position the object. The windows are transparent and behave exactly as I expect. However, as soon as I click on the ADD button to permanently place the object in my scenery, the windows turn sold (ie loose their transparency). Am I doing something wrong ? It's frustrating to be so close but just not be able to save the finished product.

Appreciate any guidance you can offer.

Thanks,
Steve

I did some further testing by placing the building directly into my scenery from FSDS v3.0 and it works fine. The transparent windows display exactly as they should.

It appears the problem is somehow related to how the building is created as a bgl object or how EZ-Scenery is placing it into my scenery. Perhaps more testing with simpler objects will reveal more.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi,

Do you also see the problem after you have created the BGL file with EZ-Scenery and then reload FS so that that file is used? Sounds like a problem of the live preview of EZ-Scenery.

Thanks Arno,

You are correct. Once I reloaded FS the transparent windows displayed correctly again. Great suggestion.

Every time I tested something new I was deleting the old object library and scenery files so I never actually saw them working after a restart of FS. What's also interesting is that after restarting FS, I can add more instances of the same building or move the existing one around and the transparency is maintained. The problem only seems to occur when I first add the object to a new scenery file.

Lesson learnt. Always test my scenery with a clean re-start of FS before pulling my hair out chasing problems that only "appear" to be there.

I really appreciate the prompt reply and great help.

Thanks,
Steve
