• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Transparent textures????

I have copied the pieces of furniture in the terminal. But how can you ensure that textures become transparent? Because then you can look at to within.

Hi,

To make a texture, or part of it, transparant you will have to add an alpha channel to it. This is an extra channel of the image where black means that the pixel is fully transparant and white means that it is visible. Gray colors can be used for semi-transparant parts.

I don't know which tool you use to make your textures? Most painting programs do have an option to add the alpha channel directly. If you then save the image in a format that can store it as well (TGA, PSD) then ImageTool can read in the alpha channel very easily for you.

I do it with Imagetool

The program for the textures are The Gimp and Paint.Net

But the Alpha Channel does'nt work

And in what format are you importing the images into ImageTool then? It must be a format that is capable to saving the alpha channel as well.

I have tried:

32-bits
DXT1
DXT3

Import, not export. In what format are you reading the image into ImageTool. If that format is not capable of storing the alpha channel you made in your paint program, of course you see no transparancy.

As written above, you need to save your texture in a format that can store the alpha channel (TGA, PSD, etc). Normal BMP textures do not store the alpha channel.
