• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi guys............

Well things are falling into place but.....slowly!!!
Now I am making two objects and this is the situation:

I need to make the glass cage of a control tower transparent...but
can´t find the way to do that!!!.............also I made a beacon tower
out of some skinny triangles and want to "open it up" so they look
like steal beams...but again can´t make the "holes"!!!!...

Any suggestions on how to : Make transparent objects in FSDS ????

Thanks in advance..........

For a scenery object, if I assume you are NOT going to use reflective surfaces, merely paint the windows on the texture and use the alpha value to control the transparency (presuming you are using FSDS3, do NOT click "has reflect map" on you makemdl options.

Well I have tried everything but I still can´get a "transparent window"!! I tried to fire up the Boolean tool and the thing does not "start" at all........

Can someone give me a hand here?......I made a pretty nice control tower but the glass cage is still not transparent at all!!!!!:(

Gera,

It's just as Felix said, but maybe I can make it simpler:

1. Make an object that you would like to be transparent.
2. While the part is highlighted in the workspace, right click the mouse and select properties.
3. Click the materials button on the parts properties popup.
4. Select New on the materials page. This should pull up the color boxes for selection.
5. Select the color you'd like to make the transparency from.
7. In the right hand column (alpha) set it to a convenient number 0= completely transparent 255= opaque
8. Name your new color. Exit the new material screen.
9. Select your new material to associate it with the part.
10. Exit out of the pop up boxes. The object may not show transparent on the preview, but will show transparency in the sim.

Note: this is for FS2004 only. FSX does transparency differently.
