• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Triggered effects

Hi guys,

I m looking for some help from someone with experience in creating triggered events (fx) during the course of an animation.

I was able to successfully add an event that triggered a desired effect at some point during the animation. Problem is, the frame at which the event is added, has no correlation with the actual timing that I see in FS. For example, I set the event trigger at around frame 1000, and it seems to randomly appear at completely different point during the animation.

All animations are tagged 'non-random ambient'

Any clues on this?

Hi,

Can you explain what you mean with a triggered effect? Would that not only be for missions or maybe I misunderstood what you are doing.

Hi Arno,

I was trying out the triggered event as is mentioned in the Animation Manager section of the SDK. It mentions the following:

'Events allow a user to add special effect triggers into an animation (for examples of these, open up the oil rig or the orca whale models). Frame is the frame at which the effect is triggered, Name/Command should be set to VFX0 (the internal code for triggering a visual effect), and Parameter is effectname, attachpoint name (for example, fx_whalebreach,attachpt_whalebreach_1). Every time the animation gets triggered, the associated effects play. You need to have an animation selected in order to add events to it.'

Hi,

Humm, I never tried that. Sounds interesting :)

Yes, but a bit tricky. The effect is indeed triggered, but the frame that is added in MAX does not correlate with the frame at which it gets triggered in FS. odd. At least in my case.

problem is that the oil rig example doesn't seem to give out too much info.

Perhaps smth that could be implemented in a 'working' fashion in MCX (add animation trigger?):p

Hi Emilios

Could you elaborate on how you exactly managed to add a event based effect? The SDK is a bit blurry on this. Does the effect have to be attached somewhere in the model already?

Edit: Got it to work. But it seems it only works with Animation of Type = "Standard", such as the Ambient ones. "Sim" types don't work, at least I couldn't trigger anything then.

The oil rig has its trigger's set by time and distance. I can't think one effect that is triggered by animation keys.
At the worst case you can trigger a fire explosion when a building falls by the trigger being that the animation is at 100% finished.
This would be close to what your explaining and might be how some of the oil rig effects work.
